Bamboo Botanicals

I saw this one in Japan many years ago. It lined the entrance to a restaurant on both sides. I still cannot get over how stunning it was. I’m absolutely floored that I now have this finally in my private collection... Phyllostachys nigra ‘Variegata’ (Variegated Black Bamboo). This one in my garden is a small 5gal plant for now. Once it matures, it will provide an amazing contrast with the black culms and white leaves.

So just how tall is 100 feet?? That’s your typical ten story building. Phyllostachys edulis ( aka ‘Moso’ ) can attain this height in its native habitat all over Asia. You will never know how minuscule you are until you stand underneath a majestic grove such as this...

Bambusa vulgaris 'Vittata’ .... probably one of my favourites amongst the tropical bamboos. Gorgeous yellow culms have stunning green stripes of varying patterns. If you can reproduce a similar growing environment, this is one of the best for indoor bamboos. I’ve seen this cultivar used in many indoor applications.
