30 felines left our facility this morning to start a new chapter with our friends at Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society - AARCS! We have been overwhelmed with cat intake requests for months now and the reality is that our region has more cats than there are homes. Thankfully we are able to partner with AARCS to transfer some of the many cats in our care down south to Calgary to continue their journey to find forever homes Amongst the crew of 30 are our longest residents su...ch Dorota who has spent 387 days looking for a forever home and 11 other felines who have been waiting for 150-200 days each! While we have so much love for these kitties and they were hard to say goodbye to, giving them the opportunity to head south and find homes is in their best interest Many thanks to all the people who help make this happen: - Volunteers Fiona and Deric who helped us securely pack our furry friends. - DRIVING FORCE Vehicle Rentals, Sales & Leasing - Grande Prairie for the van rental that allowed us to safely transport all the kitties. - Our awesome driver Darrel Comeau for making the round trip today!! - The wonderful crew at AARCS for assisting with all the wonderful felines! If you would like to donate to help us cover gas and rental costs associated with giving these kitties a new start, it would be very appreciated! Etransfers can be sent to [email protected] Rescue is always a team effort and we are so grateful for all those who make up our team!

We recieved an update from Kitten's new owner! "Kitten has settled in so nicely! We half renamed him Henry, and often call him Mr. Henry Kitten He is just the sweetest most spoiled old man here. He is never far from me, and prefers to be carried up and down the stairs, I'm sure just to get a good snuggle in lol. He does give the best snuggles! He sleeps beside my pillow at night, with his paw stretched out to touch me. And hugs me every morning when I pick him up. Our other two cats are slowly starting to warm up to him finally. They enjoy nap times together in the living room. I am just so happy we get the pleasure of having this sweet boy in our lives." Thank you for adopting him!

Faith had an amazing glow up! She was the runt of her litter and really struggled to grow for a long time. At a month old she was 200g while her litter mates were steadily growing twice at big as her! Thanks to all the extra care provided by her foster momma Tammy, Faith was able to defy the odds and thrive! We celebrate Faith’s growth today with sending her off to her forever home

Upper Respiratory Infections in cats, much like colds in humans, sometimes just need a little extra T.L.C. to feel better. Thanks to our local Rotary Club of Grande Prairie, we were able to purchase 2 incubators to not only support the animals in immediate need of warmth, but to pamper our stuffed up kitties and help them feel better! Smithers & Arendelle are enjoying some lovely steaming this afternoon to help relieve their stuffed up noses! Thank you Rotary Club of Grande Prairie for supporting our rescue and our animals in need!

Well we managed to go 2 days without a medical emergency coming through our doors! Poor Tag came in with a suspected urinary blockage and it was quickly realized he was in dire straights so he headed over to our friends at Bear Creek Animal Clinic. They were able to extract endless amounts of blood soaked urine from his nearly ruptured bladder. He had zero ability to urinate on his own and the pain that was causing him would have been unbearable . He is resting comfortably at the clinic tonight and we hope that this is the start to a brighter future for the poor boy

Another poor cat with a broken leg This young miss is the 4th leg amputation we have had this month! It is unknown what happened to her but the injury was slightly older and her leg was starting to heal in an improper position so amputation was the best option for her. She also had a hernia so she had that fixed and was spayed as well. It was big day for the little lady so she’s staying the night with our friends at Animal Medical Centre North to stay on IV support to help ensure her recovery is flawless She is already looking to run around so we have now doubt she will be up on three paws and ready to take on the world as soon as we let her lol!

Juliette was adopted from PetSmart last weekend and her mom sent us a great update! They had previously adopted Joey in April and he and Juliette, now Ivy, have hit it off. They have been a match made in heaven with Joey grooming little Ivy Their mom said they talked about getting him a sibling that would have similar personality/character traits and when Ivy popped up on our website she knew she was their missing family member Thank you for choosing adoption of two rescue kitties!

Bandaged Paws Animal Rescue Association 02.09.2020

Guinea and his siblings are very appreciative of the milk supply donated by some very wonderful folks! Many thanks to Erin Lafond, Brandy Freeman and Sherry Wendland who all helped us stock up by emptying the stores they went too! The trio had a rough weekend with diarrhea but thankfully they were negative for parvovirus and with the help of antibiotics, they are getting their poop in a group (literally). They are eating just over 2L of puppy milk replacement per day now and we are looking forward to their tummies settling fully so we can get them started on soft food

We have a one in a million type situation resulting in this adorable reunion ... After posting the orphan kitten found by Centre 2000, a lady messaged us that last week they came home to their momma cat frantically searching for her kittens. They discovered them tucked away under the hood of their truck, but this was right after they had just driven to and from town, a 40 minute drive. Sadly despite best efforts, the kittens passed away throughout the day She had messaged ...us because the husband and son had gone to Centre 2000 and maybe, just maybe this orphan kitten was one of their momma’s... Sure enough when we cross referenced the dates and times it lined up perfectly! Our found orphan was momma’s lone survivor They were reunited today and safe to say, momma’s broken heart is on the mend Special thanks again to the Gossen family for making this reunion possible! See more

We are heading into what appears to be the second wave of COVID-19 and it has prompted the City of Grande Prairie to mandate masks in public places. We will now require visitors to our facility to wear masks in order to enter the building as outlined in the bylaw (read here > https://www.cityofgp.com///bylaws/bc1426_face_covering.pdf ) Our staff are also required to wear masks when interacting with visitors. Please carefully review the photo to show the proper way to wear ...your mask! (What a good boy! ) COVID-19 has caused us to change the way we do some things and we are grateful for our community who has supported us throughout these changes. We had hoped to be switching back to normal operations by now but the new mask bylaw shows that it might a while before that can happen. Here are some highlights of COVID-19 changes that have been in place and will continue to be: - In order to best protect our staff and volunteers who are dedicated to caring for the nearly 300 animal in our care, we are remaining closed for public visiting for the foreseeable future. - All our adoptable animals can be viewed on our website. If you see an animal you want to meet, an application can be submitted through our website as well. Once received, our adoptions team will get in touch with you to set up an individual meet and greet. You can also visit with some of our adoptable cats at the Whiskers Cat Cafe! - We have a donation bin outside our front door that is checked regularly. We are not a big fan of this as we love chatting with the generous donors but at this time we need to minimize physical contact in an effort to reduce risks. That said, we are still very active with intaking animals and processing adoptions! We have many animals looking for their forever homes still If you are looking to adopt a cat, please visit www.bandagedpaws.org/adoptable-cats. If you are looking to adopt a dog, please visit www.bandagedpaws.org/adoptable-dogs. If you are looking to surrender an animal, please fill out the intake request form at www.bandagedpaws.org/intake-request

This wee fluff nugget couldn’t be any luckier! He was found in the middle of the road near the intersection at Centre 2000. At the time, he still had his umbilical cord attached! We don’t even want to think about what would have happened had it not been for the watchful of a very kind human. The Gossen family brought him home and began bottle feeding him, despite cat allergies in the home. They did a remarkable job getting him to double his weight before handing him to us to continue his journey. Thank you for saving this wee one!

This morning, our neighbors at Summit Fleet came in to a suspicious box taped up infront of their shop. When they opened it they found a mama and five kittens inside! This poor family was squished into a box smaller than an adult cat carrier and left for someone else to care for. We are grateful for our awesome neighbors at Summit Fleet who ensured they would be properly cared for through our organization. With another family of cats comes the added cost of caring for them.... This family alone will cost us over $1,000 for the basic medical care included with all adoptions. Our amazing community's support through donations is how we are able to continue saving lives every day! Find out how you can help at https://bandagedpaws.org/ways-to-help
