Sending our warmest wishes to our Diwali celebrating community. What is Diwali? The festival marks the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance. Diwali or Deepavali is celebrated in honour of Lord Ram's return to Ayodhya, ending his fourteen-year-long exile. Many worship and pray to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, on Diwali. Diwali is traditionally celebrated by lighting diyas (earthen lamps) and candles, praying to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh and meeting friends and family to exchange Diwali greetings and gifts.

What does distracted feeding look like for you? For me it was the how long can it go technique. Posted @withregram @jandy_ibclc Sometimes, when babies get to be a certain age, we start to see them tugging and pulling at the breast, popping off and going back on at every little noise, looking around (and taking your nipple with them ). Is it normal behavior? The short answer is ‘maybe’. Sure, they could they be distracted by what else is going on now that they are awa...re of it, but often, what has happened is that the mother has had a decrease in the flow of milk (the speed that the milk is coming out of the breast) and the baby has noticed. These ‘distracted’ behaviors are the babies way of trying to speed up the flow- trying to turn the tap on higher. You can help! Try adding compressions to your breast (think of your breast like a water balloon and squeeze and hold it to make more milk come out of the holes) and switch sides often. Posted @withregram @official_doulasteph Hickory Tussock Moth Caterpillars on my path today. Touching these caterpillars can cause a rash similar to that caused by nettles or poison ivy. Symptoms can range from slight reddening of the skin to a burning sensation with swelling and pain. Some people may experience a headache, nausea or... an allergic reaction. So, don’t touch it! Pretty but OUCH!

I’m happy to see these guidelines for school reopening from Sick kids. This seems to be a reasonable and measured approach. Masks are adamantly NOT recommended, classes should NOT be made smaller to support social distancing (therefore unnecessary to stagger every other day), children should be allowed to be involved in outdoor activities and sport modification may be required for high physical contact.

Hiking the Bruce Trail is something that I do for myself. Today I hiked 13km through the rocky terrain of the escarpment to Mt Nemo. This is me climbing the last vertical up the escarpment. Making time in life to be active and outdoors sometimes means rearranging other plans and prioritizing an active life. My friend Traicee and I started hiking the Bruce at Niagara Falls in June 2018. We try to get together once a month to hike 10-15 km. So far we have walked from Niagara Falls to Mt Nemo in Milton. 195 km of trail. We have ideas to walk the entire Bruce right up to Tobermory. One walk at a time!

This is such an important topic and finally research is slowly starting to come out with more guidelines! .... Undertaking running too soon may increase the risk of pelvic floor dysfunctions, such as urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapses, abdominal weaknesses, and lumbopelvic pain! Potential injury and long-term consequences such as these can create physical and psychological barriers for women returning to or initiating running following childbirth. . Recently, the UK’s chief medical officers recommended that, after having built up moderate intensity physical activities over a minimum period of 3 months after giving birth, and in the absence of any signs or symptoms of pelvic floor or abdominal wall dysfunction, more intense activities such as running can gradually resume. . Mamas, you should be starting with core strengthening and stability work right away! Please note that this is not to say that you should be hitting the ground and doing advanced crunches and planks though (DO NOT DO THIS RIGHT AWAY!!!, at least not without an evaluation and clearance to do so)! There is so much that can be done BEFORE the six week in-office check in to help set mom up for the best start to motherhood. Please seek the guidance of a certified practitioner who provides post-partum care to help give you the proper exercise progression for YOU (the right core progression is not the same for everyone!!). .
