For anyone who had booked pet photos with Santa for the coming weekend, or who had planned to book, due to the much stricter set of regulations that the provincial government imposed on small businesses last week, we regretfully will have to postpone the December 6th Santa photo date that we had planned. They will be reassessing restrictions after the 15th, so photos may still happen later in the month or perhaps even belatedly in January. Apologies; we will keep you posted on any further changes...:)

Christmas photos are Sunday, December 6th! A note about photo prep. With the season upon us , everyone is gearing up for their festive furry family photos! We know this is such a special way to celebrate with our little buddies, so here are some tips to help make your session go off without a hitch!... Practice a pose that works for your dogs. Get those treats ready, these sessions should be short, fun and engaging! Many venues will use props, benches and a Santa or helper. Set your dog up for success by having them practice their moves by stacked items, posing on a bench or chair , and with your camera so they get comfortable. When we practice, it simplifies the task for our pets and also solidifies it through memory. Even though the environment can be distracting and maybe even a little stressful, when you offer them the cue they will feel more confident because they know what is coming. Practicing in pet stores or in other lightly trafficked areas can help with distraction (make sure to watch for stress signals and keep it positive. We want to keep it fun, not overwhelming). Enter Santa! The big jolly fellow in the red costume can be man's best friend, or their worst nightmare. If your dog struggles with new scenarios or is fearful of handling, opt out of Santa in the photo and replace him with you! Dress festively and be your buddies' greatest supporter. This will let you get the best photo because it is relaxed and with you and your best bud! We recommend coming prepared to be in the picture , because even the best trained, most tolerant pet can have a bad day. Keep it positive and have fun. We can't wait to see all the amazing pics! Believe it or not, Christmas is only a few weeks away! Whether you want your pup looking dapper for Santa photos, or for the upcoming holidays, we encourage you to call, email or pm us sooner rather than later, as December spots are already filling up and it is typically one of our busiest times of year..:)

Looking to teach your new or old dog some new tricks? Western Canadian Canine Academy is starting a new trick class at Barkadia with spots available this Thursday, November 12th! We had a new experience at Barkadia yesterday! Rex is a 5 year old red footed tortoise whose family was looking for a safe, warm place where he could stretch his legs and explore. He had a blast moving at his own pace and it was amazing to watch him do his thing. We look forward to more adventures with Rex as he shows us the world from a tortoise's eye view!

Just a note to let everyone know that after a busy weekend, we will be closed for space maintenance tomorrow, Tuesday, October 27th. We will be open as normal on Wednesday and onward.

We at Barkadia are pleased to announce that we will be commencing training classes, offered by Danielle Todd, Certified Master Trainer and owner of the Western Canadian Canine Academy. Puppy education classes will begin on September 9th, and will include crate and house training, puppy manners, appropriate play, confidence building and positive obedience. Adult dog obedience classes will start on September 16th. Danielle has many years of experience with a wide variety of breeds, with many training tools at her disposal and will be a great resource for anyone looking for help with their fur babies. The warm days continue, and our air conditioned play area is cool and comfy! Since Covid-19 seems like it will be with us for some time, and that continues to make public play impossible, we are reducing our fees for private play to help everyone continue to enjoy the advantages of using our space! All play bookings will be $15 for an hour or $10 per half hour until further notice, and if friends or family want to join you they can do so for only an extra $5 per household....:)

Just a reminder that our small dog daycare is up and running; just message us 24 hours in advance and let your dog beat the heat in our air conditioned oasis like these fluffy pups...:)

Hello all, we hope you have been keeping safe and healthy these past crazy months! We had challenges of our own to deal with, but we will be re-opening, with strict sanitizing protocols and more space between a more limited number of appointments, in order to assure no close contact and as much safety as possible for ourselves and our valued customers. We won't be taking on any new dogs for grooming at the present time; once our regular clients have been looked after, we will... potentially look at opening that up further. As for play, there won't be any public play available; private play will be possible by spaced appointment and with appropriate social distancing in effect. Day care hours will be between a maximum of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, by pre-booking only with no walk in drop off or pick up.
