The Basketeers 20.11.2020

Calling all Basketeers! GTA and other participating chapters This time of year, we are usually finishing up our baskets and getting ready for the annual drop-off. COVID-19 has put a pause on basket donations, but it won’t stop us from helping women that are bravely taking steps to escape the cycle of domestic abuse. Please make a donation towards the purchase of gift cards in this year’s campaign. Hi Basketeers! As the number of new Covid cases continues to rise, so do the impacts of domestic abuse. The challenge faced by women trying to escape the cycle of domestic abuse are amplified as a result of the current pandemic. https://www.cbc.ca//national-survey-domestic-violence-end- The launch of the 2020 reimagined GTA campaign, a little less than a week ago, has been met with positive feedback and donations to purchase gift cards has begun. With your generosity, we ar...e looking forward to helping women in their new beginning. We are excited to launch the 2020 campaign and want to share our plans for the GTA Basketeers this year so that you have enough time to plan for the upcoming revised campaign. Domestic violence is on the rise and because of COVID-19, many women cannot leave home to access a safe place. We know the need for support is and will continue to be tremendous. As there are still so many unknowns relating to COVID-19, we worry that for many Basketeers, shopping may pose a safety risk..., and that meeting in a large group in November, transporting and storing the baskets would create too many touch points for us to manage safely. That is why we feel the Basketeers campaign must pivot this year to prioritize everyone’s safety and well-being. This includes not only our chapter leads, volunteers and donors, as well as the shelters and the women that receive donated baskets. This year, we are reimagining the Basketeers campaign. Instead of asking donors to shop and make a basket, we are asking individuals and groups to consider making financial donationsand let us take care of the details Just a reminder we are not a registered charity and no tax receipt will be issued for donations. Full details are on the website. With the generous contributions from donors, the Basketeers chapter will purchase gift cards, assemble them as gift bundles, wrap them beautifully, and donate them to the 16+ shelters currently supported. The shelters will gift the bundles in the same way as they do with baskets each year to a woman transitioning from shelter to new home. Although we may not have the joy of shopping, the gift cards will still give the recipients the new beginning they truly deserve. We hope you agree. Hello Basketeers, We hope this message finds all of you healthy and safe during this challenging time. There are still so many unknowns with COVID 19 and we feel that this year’s Basketeers campaign needs to be launched with everyone’s safety and well-being as our top priorities. This includes the safety of Basketeers Chapter leads, volunteers, donors as well as the shelters and the women that receive the beautiful donated baskets.... We have a new exciting plan for our 2020 campaign so please stop shopping. We will be sending out the new fall campaign details towards the end of August. Stay Safe, Cheryl Stoneburgh
