Tourism BCIT Field Trip 2015

Remember what we said before about students partying at night? Well it is currently 6:30pm and the second day of tourism field trip has ended. As in the scheduled itinerary has ended and the unscheduled things are about to begin. Check back later find out what happened! It won't get too crazy, promise. All you have are a group of students within walking distance of a hotel, shopping district, restaurants, bars and a liquor store. What could possibly happen?... In the meantime,a big thank you to Eagle Wing Tours and the Sea-to-Sky Gondola for hosting us and providing valuable industry information. Today was the adventurous part of the trip - we went on a whale-watching tour onboard a newly redesigned yacht and took a gondola up the mountain. At exactly 10:30pm in the evening, the first day of the tourism field trip is over; given that this day began at 7:00am and we have to wake up by 7:00am again tomorrow, I'd imagine most students are sleeping by now. Or maybe they're out partying somewhere. You never know. This has been a jam-packed day full of guest speakers, new sights and amazing experiences. We do too, which is why we are currently staying at the Fairmont Empress, one of the most prestigious hotels in Victoria. Someone once asked why we are going on vacation in the middle of the school year, when we are supposed to be working. There can, of course, be only one response: we are in tourism, this IS work! The FAM (stands for familiarization) field trip is unique to the tourism option of the Marketing Management program at BCIT. The entire tourism class travels around British Columbia to learn more about the travel industry, connect with professionals, and have a great time doing it.... This year we will be going to Victoria, followed by Whistler. Along the way there will be garden tours, whale-watching, and many other activities. And yes, this is all for educational purposes.
