And just like that September is almost here. As part of the new schedule we have decided to start offering private swimming lessons! In order to ensure physical distancing, lessons will be modified according to the Canadian Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety COVID-19 Protocols document. Some general rules and guidelines: -Instructors will only get in the water to demonstrate skills. If the instructor is in the water the swimmers must sit on the wall to ensure 2m distance bet...ween them and the instructor. -All preschool levels and swim kids levels 1-4 will be parented classes. This means that an adult must be in the water at all times to assist them with their skills. -Red Cross has taken out certain skills from each level to accomodate not having the instructor in the water and to ensure physical distancing can be maintained. Registration for lessons is now open and registration for the gym and swims for the first week of September will open on August 27th. If you have any further questions and/or concerns do not hesitate to call us at 780-354-2203 and the customer service rep on duty will be happy to help.

Here is our upcoming August pool schedule. As you will notice public swimming is making its much anticipated return! With that being said however, public swim is going to operate differently than it did pre-COVID-19. Please read the poster below carefully! Some of the main points include: -Public swim is a pre-registered program with drop ins where space allows. -We can allow maximum 20 people per public swim block. This ensures swimmers can move around and have fun yet main...tain 2 meters distance from those who are not a part of their household or cohort. -Bring your own toys. We will only be offering lifejackets, noodles, and flutter boards for public use. Public swimming is considered to be one of the highest risk activities offered in a swimming pool during the pandemic. We have decided to take this step as we feel confident in our ability to keep everyone safe, however this is a team effort! Therefore we are asking everyone to help us out by doing their part (i.e., staying home when sick, practicing hand hygiene, and so on). Registration for the August schedule opens this Thursday July 30th at 7:00am. As always we appreciate your patience and continued support during this time. To book your spot or to ask us questions please call 780-354-2203.

Due to low attendance of our evening and weekend programs we have decided to make some changes to accommodate staffing. The changes are as follows: Monday and Wednesday evening aquafit will be a pre-registered program starting Wednesday August 22nd. Drop-ins will still be allowed where available. We will now have registration/booking deadlines for floatfit, evening aquafit, evening lane swim, and Sunday private rentals. o Monday & Wednesday Aquafit and Tuesday & Thursday F...loatfit - cut off of 4pm the day of. o Monday-Thursday evening lane swim - cut off of 4pm the day of. o Sunday private rentals - cut off of Thursday prior (i.e., cut off for Sunday July 26th is Thursday July 23rd). We have also had some inquiries about booking an entire floatfit class. This is absolutely an option if you would like to have a private class with friends and family. Since the addition of private rentals to the pool schedule, we have had a lot of questions. Hopefully the following information helps to clear some things up! The cost to rent the pool is $150/hr. The cost to rent the multipurpose room is $25/hr There is a maximum of 40 people allowed in the water per rental time. Private rentals operate as public swimming the water features will be on, a limited number of toys will be out, the lane lines will be out of the water, a...nd the diving board will be open. Being that the patrons attending the rental will be a cohort group, we do not have to enforce social distancing or prevent the sharing of toys between individuals. All regular swimming rules apply, including that 7 and unders must be within arms reach of an adult and 8-10 year olds must complete the swim test prior to going into the deep end alone. The toys will be set out on the pool deck by the lifeguard prior to the rental time starting. If you require a lifejacket or a flutterboard please ask at the front desk. Private rentals are a great way for families and friends to let loose in the pool until public swimming opens up again. It also allows our staff to get a better idea of what issues we might come across when we open up public swim and what rules we need to have in place. If any further questions persist, or if you would like to book a private rental please call 780-354-2203. See more

Earlier this year the Grande Prairie Regional Recreation Committee (GPRRC) conducted a survey with participation from randomly selected houses within the city of Grande Prairie and various surrounding communities. The intent of the survey was to gather information that will guide municipalities in the creation, delivery, and improvement of various recreation programs and the facilities they are offered in. If you are interested in learning more about the GPRRC or viewing the results of the survey, please view the following link: http://www.gprrc.ca//2020-06-19_gprrc_household_survey_rep

After being closed to the public for 4 months we are extremely excited to reopen to the community and surrounding areas! However, things are going to look a little different. As stated on the upcoming schedule we are utilizing a soft launch approach which means we will be limiting pool usage, limiting maximum capacity, tailoring facility use to older age adults (as it is easier to implement physical distancing requirements), and not offering any activities that bring large nu...mbers of people in the building such as fitness classes, swimming lessons, or public swims at this time. The soft launch is planned for 2 weeks to ensure that all of our ducks are in a row before we open up 100%. This is a recommendation made by the Lifesaving Society which we are proudly affiliated with. Further, we have set aside time in-between programming, midway through the day, and during facility closures to allow our staff to thoroughly clean/disinfect surfaces. Due to the everchanging guidelines the schedules and information we release are subject to change; please check back frequently! As time goes on, we will be sharing what the next steps are going to look like such as fitness center programs, facility bookings, and so on. Staff continue to work 8am-4pm and are happy to answer the phones and take questions at this time. As always, we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.
