To: Our Valued Clients: Date: June 25, 2021 Subject: New Tax Legislation... Below is a link to Bill C-208 which has just been passed. This will be extremely important to business owners who are looking at passing their business on to the next generation. In the past if you were to sell your shares to a third party you would be able to claim your capital gains exemption and get approximately $860,000 tax free. If you were to sell to a child or grandchild because you were related to them you did not get the same treatment. The sale would actually result in taxable dividend to the seller. This resulted in business owners being at a disadvantage it selling to the next generation. As a result of these amendments there will now be away to sell to the next generation and claim your capital gains exemption. Should you have any questions, please contact our office at 506 632-9020. To: Valued Client RE: Expanded CEBA Loan We wanted to take a moment to advise our clients that the Canadian Emergency Business Account (CEBA) has been expanded to allow for an additional loan of $20,000. This amount, in addition to the original $40,000 loan, combines for a total loan of $60,000, of which, up to $20,000 could be forgivable.... Please note that an attestation is required and the loan proceeds must be used to fund certain expenses. It is important that each loan agreement be carefully read to ensure all loan qualifications are/will be met as the loan agreements from each financial institution could vary.
