We want to give a big huge thank you to our friend Jo who reached out to us when one of her customers who is moving overseas realized that the 12 bags of dog food purchased were not allowed to be shipped so they have donated it to us! A big huge thank you goes out to Wendy G., Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, for an incredibly generous donation of Kirland Turkey and Sweet Potato dog food. These are limited ingredient and great for dogs with allergies. If your rescue can or is feeding this food and would like some bags, please fill out the supply request form!

Christine E. had an excess purchase of scent free natural laundry soap and asked if we could use it. Yes we can and this donation is heading off to our friends at Meika's Safehouse. With many birds in care, towels and linens are washed frequently as birds can be messy and, with intakes there is always quarantine so that no cross contamination occurs.

The lovely Karen was out and about today and stopped at Pet Valu West Henday and picked up this load of puppy food, dog food, pee pads, canned food and other goodies to be discovered. Thank you so much to Darlene and the staff at West Henday! You rock!

We are often asked questions about rescues operating in Alberta. Rescues should be registered either provincially or federally. CRA registered rescues can issue tax receipts for donations, provincially registered rescues cannot. To find out if the organization is registered, here is a link to the Alberta Non-Profit Listing.... We note that some organizations have been struck. This means that an Alberta Society, Alberta non-profit company, or extra-provincial non-profit legal entity has been dissolved or had its registration cancelled by the Registrar of Corporations because it had not submitted required information for at least one year. Each year we are required to file an Annual Return and submit financial reporting. Annual returns confirm the location of the non-profit, Board of Directors and revenue and expenses. It is important if you are giving funds to a non-profit that they are transparent in their day to day operations and especially accountable for income received. For more information or to search Alberta registered rescues/non profits, go to the link below, click preview, and then use the search tool: https://open.alberta.ca/opendata/alberta-non-profit-listing

We want to give a big huge thank you to my beautiful friend Claudia who sewed all these amazing crate mats for pups in need! Can you imagine coming into care, afraid and alone, and being able to settle onto something soft made with love. This is such a gift and we are so grateful.

It is -25 in Edmonton right now but that doesn't mean anything when rescues need assistance. We sent this donation of grain free soft treats, Ziwi Peak dehydrated raw, potato and duck dry food, along with 4 bags of Kirkland Turkey and Sweet Potato dog food (not shown) to our friends at Pit Bulls for Life Foundation of Alberta & Sanctuary today. We have found a food the pittys do so well on - Performatrin Potato and Duck or Natural Balance Duck and Potato. Unfortunately we only had a handful of bags so we did a quick sub out with another brand that won't aggravate allergies. We strive to ensure dogs in care receive food that helps their bellies, their skin and their overall well being.

We are always asked about the Supply Request Form. Here is the link to order supplies. There are two spaces for an email address - this is to provide us with a back up contact in the event we need to reach an alternate person. https://forms.gle/QvvqrZjZJ8aq2dX97

Coyotes really are popping up everywhere in Alberta! This fella sauntered into a Shoppers Drug Mart in Grande Prairie. Fortunately, Fish and Wildlife were able to relocate him back home. https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/coyote-goes-shopping-at-norther

We know the power of social media and are calling upon our friends and supporters to share this very important fundraiser below. As you know Inuvik is near and dear to our hearts and when we realized that another of Canada’s northernmost humane societies was in trouble, we had to share. The Iqaluit Humane Society is set to be demolished next year due to mold, and the organization is rushing to raise $1 million in hopes of building a new facility to serve all of Nunavut. ... This is the only facility that serves this community and without it, surrendered pets are at risk of euthanasia. As a registered charity, you will receive a tax receipt if you are able to donate. Please share and if you can help with donations, please know every dollar makes a difference in the lives of at risk animals. Below are ways you can help save the shelter and the many animals that count on help. Last week we loaded up our friend and community liaison Angela It started with helping a hound with an igloo, homemade dog beds and some dog food and treats, then saw our friends from Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society and loaded them down with dog and cat food for Saturday's outreach. It takes a village and a community of rescuers to come together to ensure animals at our First Nation communities have food, shelter and supports in place. Thank you everyone involved (se...e post below for all the players) for making this event such a huge success. #communityhelpingcommunity

We have waited to share this story of rescue until we knew the ending would have a happy one. On Monday, the unthinkable happened when a horse at Adorado fell through and got stuck in an icy water hole. It takes a village and thanks to the efforts of some extraordinary and kind people, this beautiful horse was rescued. Efforts from the local fire department, RCMP and Vintage Towing saved the day. Vintage Towing returned later in the evening to once again hoist the horse up ...so that he could move and get circulation back into his legs. We want to extend our gratitude to the many men and women who helped make this rescue a reality. Thank you all for being Earth Angels for the Animals. https://www.cbc.ca//horse-rescued-from-icy-mud-hole-expect

It is Wednesday's most wanted and today we are posting for something unique! Networking helped us repurpose and save money by tracking down an igloo for one of our outreach communities, now we are looking for something a little different. We are in need of 16 tv tables (wooden if possible) like the one pictured (color does not matter!). We found them for $21 each (including tax) and will soon be fundraising - unless someone wants to sponsor an early Christmas present :) If y...ou have tv tables kicking around that are in good shape that you aren't using, we would be pleased to receive them. With 2021 soon upon us, and restrictions for hosting events and classes still limited, we have had to think outside the box on bringing you foster orientation classes, more compassion fatigue and other seminars. Social distancing protocols in place, we are able to host small class sizes of up to 15 people but would love to not have folks writing on their laps. If you would like to donate towards our education needs, donations are graciously accepted at [email protected]

Thanks to social media and media outlets reporting on the global pandemic, we can see the affect it is wreaking on the economy, small business, projects, as well as the human race from increased mental health issues, job loss, suicides, etc. But how has the pandemic affected animal rescue and organizations whose work is to support animal rescues? Some animal rescues saw a spike in adoptions and foster applications at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, trying to...Continue reading

The goblins are out - please be safe this evening - and remember don't leave pets unattended outside and in some communities where fireworks are let off, ensure your pets are secured. Let's not have any scary incidents tonight.

We were pleased to be able to fill a wish list request for the Feral Cat Network today thanks to our supporting stores. We sent them steel and ceramic dishes, cat toys, lots of wet canned cat food, pee pads, 2 bags of dry kitten food and badly needed wet kitten food!! Every year I say it and every year I am proven wrong - due to a lack of TNR and spay/neuter clinics, the cat population has exploded and there are far too many kittens being born outside - many times left with no mom to care for them. It is rescue groups like this that help ensure community cats are safe, loved, fed and medically cared for.
