THE CON ARTIST (2010) Directed by Risa Bramon Garcia Starred Rossif Sutherland, Sarah Roemer, Greg Germann, Russell Peters, Donald Sutherland, Jed Rees, Mac Fyfe, Rebecca Romjin ... 2010, Canada, English, 84 minutes... Here we have a Canadian heist movie, with famous Canadian actors, father and son Sutherland, blended with a artistic touch from a female director Risa Bramon Garcia. "What happens the thief protagonist happens to be a talented artist soon to be discovered?" is the starting point of this heist movie. There is not much to say. I have seen it twice. The only things I remember about it that it is a simple, smooth movie, which has moments tends to wander around the genres such as comedy, crime movie and romantic comedy. It was interesting to see Donald Sutherland together with his less known son Rossif. *** If you look for; a Canadian heist a heist tends to be comedy, romantic comedy and crime movie a simple, smooth heist movie then this is your movie. *** If you liked this movie, I believe you might like also: (available in the blog) The Art of the Steal (2013) Henry's Crime (2010) My Mom's New Boyfriend (2008) Organize Isler / Magic Carpet Ride (2005) *** Degree: Pure Theft Movie Sub-Category: Auto Theft Excellence of Robbery Plan: 1/5 Originality of Robbery Plan: 1/5 Quality of Robbery Action Scenes: 1/5 Actors' Performances: 2/5 Excitement Level: 1/5 Surprise Level: 2/5 Humor Level: 2/5 Originality of the Story in General: 2/5 Rating As A Robbery/Heist Movie: 2/5 Rating the Movie As A Whole: 2/5

I SOLITI IGNOTI / BIG DEAL ON MADONNA STREET (1958) Directed by Mario Monicelli Starred Vittorio Gassman, Marcelo Mastroianni, Renato Salvatori, Memmo Carotenuto, Rosanna Rory, Carla Gravina, Claudia Cardinale, Toto ...... 1958, Italy, Italian A group of small-time thieves attempts to make a burglary of a local pawnshop in this black & white Italian caper movie. 'I soliti ignoti' is generally seen as parody of a very influential big heist movie of the time and one of the heist classics of all time; 'Rififi' (Du rififi chez les hommes - 1956. Also available in this blog). It is a small caper about small-time thieves who live in a poor neighborhood. It is often funny, sympa and didn't bore me for a moment. However, since it is a comedy, one might find it hilarious, while another might find it boring. There are 3 great, legendary Italian actors in the cast; Vittorio Gassman, Claudia Cardinale and Marcelo Mastroianni. Generally positive reactions both from the critics and the audience. A modest reputation in its genre. A Silver Seashell in San Sebastian International Film Festival and a nomination for Best Foreign Language movie in Oscars (which is the only one in the blog so far). Being voted as one of the 'The 50 Greatest Comedies of All Time' by Premiere. Being the inspiration of a Broadway Musical (Big Deal). I believe, you have enough reasons to give a shot, especially since you are in a robbery & heist movies blog. I absolutely didn't regret. * * * If you look for; a World Cinema classic a funny caper movie from Italy a heist with legendary movie actors an award-winner heist a Best Foreign Movie Oscar nominee heist then this is your movie. *** If you liked this movie, I believe you might like also: (available in the blog) The Ladykillers (1955) Quick Change (1990) Rififi / Du rififi chez les hommes (1955) Pink Panther (1963) Bob le Flambeur (1956) *** Degree: Caper Movie Sub-Category: Burglary Excellence of Robbery Plan: 1/5 Originality of Robbery Plan: 1/5 Quality of Robbery Action Scenes: 2/5 Actors' Performances: 3/5 Excitement Level: 1/5 Surprise Level: 2/5 Humor Level: 3/5 Originality of the Story in General: 2/5 Rating As A Robbery/Heist Movie: 2/5 Rating the Movie As A Whole: 2/5

BANDE À PART / BAND OF OUTSIDERS (1964) Directed by Jean-Luc Godard Starred Anna Karina, Sami Frey, Claude Brasseur ... 1964, France, French with some English dialogues... A different approach to heist movies from legendary French film director, Jean-Luc Godard. Godard is considered as one of the most influential and greatest director alive according to many sources, often the greatest. French New Wave`s most celebrated director offers a much deeper social look on the topic. Slow in the pace, sophisticated in the character study, it isn`t for everybody although it is considered one of the most notable movies of Godard. To be honest, it wasn`t for me, although I am very into World Cinema and sophisticated movies, more than pop-culture movies actually. 'Bande à part' was rated No 79 in Empire magazine's "The 100 Best Films of World Cinema". As a Tarantino fan, I found it very interesting that Tarantino named his production company (A Band Apart) after this move. *** If you look for; a World Cinema classic a sophisticated look on heist genre a heist from a legendary filmmaker a slow pace, character study on small time crooks then this is your movie. *** If you liked this movie, I believe you might like also: (available in the blog) Bob le Flambeur (1956) Dog Day Afternoon (1975) Le Premiere Cercle (2009) Small Time Crooks (2000) Stander (2003) *** Degree: Alternative Theft Movie Sub-Category: Burglary Excellence of Robbery Plan: 1/5 Originality of Robbery Plan: 1/5 Quality of Robbery Action Scenes: 2/5 Actors' Performances: 3/5 Excitement Level: 1/5 Surprise Level: 1/5 Humor Level: 1/5 Originality of the Story in General: 2/5 Rating As A Robbery/Heist Movie: 2/5 Rating the Movie As A Whole: 2/5

BOB LE FLAMBEUR (1956) Directed by Jean-Pierre Melville Starred Roger Duchesne, Isabelle Corey, Daniel Cauchy ...... 1956, France, French A French heist from an infamous heist movie director, Jean-Pierre Melville. You can see this movie listed in some of Top Robbery Movies lists. The movie focuses on its protagonists more than the heist itself, and we sail for a very different heist movie experience. This time, the mastermind of the robbery is a gambler. I, of course, can`t say if you will like it very much or not, but I guarantee that the movie will gain a unique place in your robbery / heist movie experience. Especially, if you are a heist movies amateur, you cannot pass Melville. * * * If you look for; a serious robbery movie surprises a movie mainly focuses on the characters a different approach on the genre then this is your movie. *** If you liked this movie, I believe you might also like; (available in the blog) Henry`s Crime (2010) The Italian Job (2013) Le Premier Cercle (2009) The Maltese Falcon (1941) Le Cercle Rouge (1970) Bande à part / Band of Outsiders (1964) I soliti ignori / Big Deal on Madonna Street (1958) The Asphalt Jungle (1950) *** If you liked this move, IMDb believes you might also like; (available in the blog) Rififi (1955) Le Cercle Rouge (1970) *** Degree: Alternative Theft Movie Sub-Category: Casino Robbery Excellence of Robbery Plan: 2/5 Originality of Robbery Plan: 2/5 Quality of Robbery Action Scenes: 3/5 Actors' Performances: 4/5 Excitement Level: 3/5 Surprise Level: 5/5 Humor Level: 2/5 Originality of the Story in General: 4/5 Rating As A Robbery/Heist Movie: 4/5 Rating the Movie As A Whole: 4/5
