As we continue to see COVID numbers rise, one local couple is doing what they can to help keep our health care workers safe. Tim and Judy McKinney own The Loft in Belleville. Tim reached out to BGHF and wanted to offer front line workers in need a place to stay, free of charge over the next month. They made the same generous offer last spring with an Airbnb and they had some nurses stay during the first wave of COVID. The Grosso family made it a family fundraising effort this holiday season. The kids have an "Active Citizenship" program at their school and were looking for ways to give back to their community. They reached out to a Facebook group of Rednersville road residents and asked everyone in their neighborhood to leave their empties outside. Four trips later they raised $1000 for BGHF. Chris & Shirley Van Steen of Carrying Place wanted to share their good fortune this holiday season and are giving BGHF almost $30k! The Van Steen’s had purchased some stocks at a low price and when the stocks went up significantly they chose to sell and donate the profits. Chris Van Steen had a number of hip surgeries at QHC and says his newfound good health is due to the teams who cared for him. He and his wife Shirley thought it only fitting to make sure those same healthcare professionals have the best equipment to provide the same great care for others in our community. Congrats to Anne Morrison for her nomination as a Hospital Hero! Anne is on the right, and is with Tricia Postma (left), whose nomination was posted this past Wednesday before we had a pic. The note reads, "Anne was the PCl today and she was also welcoming and interactive and kind to both the new staff, and myself. Anne was inviting and didn't make us feel out of place. She took the time to explain to the new staff and myself about how the unit functioned and explained each role within the department. What a great example of leadership, and what a warm welcome for the new staff to experience and see." #bghf

Our Hospital Heroes are the Labour Delivery team on the Maternal Child Care Unit at BGH. A donor said I went into labour back in April during the height of the pandemic and every single one of the staff were compassionate and reassuring. Thank you to these heroes. #bghf

A special thanks goes to 6-year-old Brayden Vigneault who raised $870.00 for the Dr. Mac Oncology Clinic here at BGH, in honour of his father who passed away from cancer when Brayden was 16 months old. He gave the cheque to BGHF on what would have been his dad Tyril’s 47th birthday. Thanks Brayden and mom Nicole! #bghf

Every year the BGH Foundation asks BGH staff and physicians to say I’m In for better health care through a staff giving campaign. To date this year’s I’m In campaign has brought in a record breaking $117,000! Over 450 staff members from all across the hospital have donated.
