It’s week 5 of the Cafe Family Friday Feature after the holiday break. Taylor Hollstedt is the cofounder of the Bicycle Cafe Kamloops in 2003 and is still in the back of the shop pumping out the bike repairs. He has had a hand in everything in the Cafe from day one. For the shop he has constructed, welded, dug ditches, painted, dry walled, fixed ALL the bikes, fabricated and in the past he even worked the sales floor. He is truly the most talented and amazing person and an ...integral part of the Cafe Family. He spends his spare time digging on his own jump track, doing a thousand Dh laps in a row at Sun Peaks, welding in his personal shop or helping out at the Bike Ranch or on his friends trails. It’s week 2 of the Cafe Family Friday Feature. This week was are introducing Cafe Service Writer and mechanic Harrison Bayman. Harrison has been with us for the whole 2020 season and has gone from a young keen apprentice to a skilled mechanic and service manager. Harrison a young smart enthusiastic Cafe team member and you can trust he has the right training and backing to book your bike in and get it the love it so desperately needs. He is also a very high level cyclist fro...m way back. Downhill and dirtjumping is what he grew up on, but he will surely show up for a cross country pedal in jeans and slip on shoes and do his best to keep up with no complaints. When we first opened the Bicycle Cafe in Kamloops, almost 20 years ago, I never could have imagined making it to this point. It felt like we were giving something exciting a try. And I’m so happy we took that chance. I’m thankful to Kamloops riders, for trusting me and the team with your ride. From the customers who first wandered in our doors at the bottom of Rose Hill road back in 2003, trusting us with you’re dive into the wild-west fringe activity that we called mountain ...biking, through all the years of bikes and biking growing and changing shapes. I’m thankful for the new to Kamloops residents, a lot of whom seemed to have moved here specifically for the riding, right up to this season of weird uncertainties, when you still trusted us to keep you safe and healthy and rolling down the trail. Every part of this ride has been a pleasure, and I’m excited to have been at the steering wheel this whole time. Truthfully, I’ve been ready to take this step back from the store for a while now. But I never wanted to move away from the day-to-day without absolute certainty that the Bicycle Cafe was held in the best of hands. And right now, we’ve really got the greatest team we’ve ever had at the Cafe. I trust them to take care of the store with all my heart, and I know that you can trust them to take care of your ride, too. They’re the perfect crew to usher in a new era, and I can’t wait to see how they run with everything. Two more days left in the shop for Cheryl. Stay tuned for her final thoughts on the 31st and come by in the next 2 days to wish her well!

Another shipment of bikes from Specialized for a local school. The Outride program sends bikes to schools and creates a program for healthy kids. The program helps kids grow through a positive exposure to cycling and can really encourage young people to take care of their bodies and minds. I’ve always been busy keeping the ship sailing , but I’m also deeply involved with developing trails and local riding areas, maintaining and managing those networks, and hosting a lot of local events. Its so rad. But over the years, it’s added up to be A LOT. While I won’t be on the floor at the Bicycle Cafe anymore, I’ll be on the trails and making things happen behind the scenes a lot more, and I’m thrilled to pour that extra time and care into ensuring that mountain biking in Kamloops is always blooming. Thank you for joining us again for Cheryl’s deep thoughts as she transitions out of the shop October 31st. More next week....

Sooo where do I hand my two-weeks notice in, if I’m the boss? While I’ll still be around behind the scenes, as of October 31st, I won’t be found on the sales f...loor at the Bicycle Cafe anymore. It’s been a wild and wonderful ride that I appreciate with all my heart, but I’m ready to take a step back from the daily routine. Thanks for the ride, Kamloops!
