Big Hook Wilderness Camps 06.01.2021

Unfortunately it was announced late this week that the U.S. / Canada border closure will be extended until at least August 21. All affected trip leaders should have received notification yesterday. We are still holding out a small glimmer of hope for our late season guests, but the U.S. case counts are not helping. Wear those masks everbody! In happier news, I was able to make it across the border and to Big Hook finally. More details on all the adventures to date and the fir...st wilderness blog of 2020 can be found here: https://bighookwildernesscamps.blogspot.com//its-lonely-up We are certainly missing all of you! Big Hook guests may want to consider bringing out the heavy duty lumber to prepare for extra hungry fish! For those who may have missed the news, the U.S. / Canada Border will unfortunately continue to be closed for another month with a current reopen / reevaluate date of June 21. We're obviously bummed by this development, but hopeful we can get back to work, fun, and fishing very soon. It seems likely the fish will be extra hungry and even more willing to bite when we do!... All affected trip leaders should have heard from me yesterday. If you have a later summer reservation, expect COVID updates by email at 60, 30, and 10 days leading up to your arrival. Feel free to reach out with questions any time. Otherwise, stay safe, stay healthy, and look forward to fun times to come. Think about coming up to Big Hook!

During these strange and uncertain times, it’s good to know some things, some places, some people will always be there. The wilderness in which Big Hook operates has endured for thousands of years and will continue on for many more. At this time we are optimistic that the camps, the fish, and the borders will be ready for our guests in another few months. ... Unfortunately, only the fish can really be guaranteed right now. I will be keeping in touch with all 2020 trip leaders as this unprecedented situation evolves and am certainly hopeful we’ll get to enjoy the grandeur of Opasquia as scheduled. I appreciate the support I have gotten from many of you and encourage everyone to check in on their fishing friends - you don’t always know who may be having a hard time. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones, and look forward to sunrises, companionship, and the tug of a fighting fish soon, R.

Our 2020 Winter Road Trip is Complete! We had good road conditions and were able to haul A LOT of freight to Sandy Lake including a new boat, new solar batteries, several packages of siding and flooring, new Yamaha outboards, lots of canned goods, lumber, propane, etc.... Hoping the road conditions hold out for a few more weeks so Sandy Lake can get all the supplies they need. ... A huge thanks to Ed and Ken for their help! Starting to get that fishin' itch!
