Treats! Want to know some healthy treats to feed your feline friend? Listed below are some great choices on the market or some homemade ones (home cooked). Keep in mind that treats are part of your cat’s caloric count so go easy if your cat needs to shed a few pounds. So after (hopefully) reading our cat nutrition article you have a good idea of what ingredients are good, bad and ugly. So to name a few brands that have done a great job at providing biologically correct t...reats: Purebites: Freeze Dried meat. 1-2 ingredients. Crumps: Dehydrated beef liver. Single ingredient. Benny Bully’s: Freeze Dried beef liver. Beef liver and heart, beef liver and cranberries, beef liver and beef liver and fish. 1-2 ingredients. Orijen: Freeze Dried meat. Single or multiple meat proteins. Now we will list the ever popular temptations treats. Chicken by-product meal Ground Corn Animal fat Dried meat by-products Brewers Rice Wheat Flour Natural Flavour (Synthetic vitamins and minerals including taurine.) Yikes!! Three different plant based proteins/carbohydrates and mystery meat By-Product and fat. I find that concerning because if it’s an unidentifiable animal the quality must be incredibly low (slaughter house sourced). Feline Greenies: Chicken meal Rice flour Wheat flour Corn Gluten Meal Oat fiber Poultry fat Natural poultry flavours Etc. Again not looking good at all. Blue Buffalo Chicken & Trout Treats: Deboned Chicken Trout Potatoes Vegetable Glycerine -Vegetable glycerin used in food applications is USP grade or over 99% pure and has a sweet taste. Vegetable glycerin metabolizes differently than sugar and is used in low carbohydrate foods for sweetness and moisture. Unlike sugar, glycerin does not contribute to tooth decay. Gelatin Natural flavour Salt Preserved with Phosphoric, Sorbic & Citric Acids, Mixed Tocopherols Rosemary So our question marks are just there to ponder the reason why these ingredients were necessary. Again plant based ingredients are not appropriate for cats so their addition is not correct. Cooked or Raw pieces of meat (no fat) are a nice tasty treat for your kitty just remember when meat is cooked it loses some nutritional value. Small pieces of organ meat (raw or lightly cooked). Keep in mind that organ meats are high in vitamins, minerals and taurine which makes them very rich so small quantities should be fed. Happy snacking! Next series will be on dogs!

Chapter Five: Dunnnnn dun dunnnnnn, RAW! This chapter is going to be all about raw! Okay maybe some dehydrated food talk will occur too Now I know raw is not for everyone but hear me out! Cats thrive on whole prey diets. Raw contains the moisture they need, no processing or heating which takes nutrients out of the food and it helps to keep their teeth clean by gnawing on pieces of bone, flesh. It is important to know that taurine disappears when exposed to high temperat...Continue reading
