Pain - it can creep up on you right before your very eyes one of the problems with pain is that once pain starts, it can create a vicious cycle that can be challenging to get on top of. Losing Smokey was one of the hardest things I have ever gone through. That experience shaped me and was the spark of my journey into providing End-of-Life Care to others. We welcomed Penny into our palliative care in March. Penny is a 15+ year old tabby. She came with digestive issues when she was rescued by her #fureverfamily in 2013. That alone has been challenging to manage. Then in 2018 she started having mobility issues. Pennys pet parents reached out to us after hearing about our services and wondering if there was anything else that could be done to help Penny from the comfort of her home. As you know, many cats can become st...ressed during car travel (or any change of routine for that matter). Together, we have determined our goals of palliative care for Penny and are working on supporting her digestive and mobility concerns while maximizing her comfort. Combining integrative approaches to veterinary care provides comfort care on multiple, synergistic levels. For example: Nutritional support, mobility aids, complementary therapy, physical medicine (rehab, massage, chiropractic care, acupuncture, targeted pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, etc.) in addition to traditional medicine focusing on pharmacological interventions. Sometimes, we may find opportunities to make subtle modifications or adjustments to routines, flooring/carpeting, feeding areas and sleeping areas to help improve your pets comfort .... We were so happy to see the home-made #environmentalmodifications our amazing pet parents had already implemented to help their sweet boy with his mobility issues. Since he loved sleeping in the bed with mom and dad, they built him some stairs when they noticed difficulty jumping. Difficulty jumping up onto couches, beds, or in and out of vehicles is a common sign of joint pain, often arthritis. Managing the pain associated with arthritis, usually requires an integrative approach: Weight loss and dietary management, including supplements, Physical medicine such as laser therapy, tPEMf, heat/cold therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, and/or massage, and Medications There can be great frustration and sometimes anxiety when one can no longer do the things that were previously done with ease. Welcome Carlos into our hospice care. Carlos is a 15 year Pekingese mix. He has a bad back and subsequently experiences discomfort and mobility issues. Carloss pet parents reached out to us after noticing these changes, in addition to decreased appetite and interactions. He was also experiencing difficulty becoming comfortable, especially at bedtime. Upon successful completion of a final medical records inspection, Black Creek Mobile Vets received our official certificate of Accreditation as a mobile practice providing home hospice, palliative care, and euthanasia. Pet Loss Bereavement support with transportation for cremation We will come to your home offer pet loss support and guidance in the aftercare decision-making process, and gently transport your beloved pet for cremation You may also choose to bring your pet directly to our crematorium, however, arrangements must be made by prior appointment. If your beloved pet passes after regular veterinary business hours, you may keep your pet at home until arrangements can be made in the morning. If doing so, we recommend keeping them dry and protected (wrapped in a blanket) in a cool area if at all possible. If keeping your loved one at home is not possible until an appointment can be made, contact a local emergency veterinary clinic as they may be better able to hold your beloved companion until arrangements with Gateway can be made.
