What was it like to grow up as an Irish immigrant in 1860s Ontario? We've added a new character to our Class of '67 online game: Molly Foley. Through this interactive story navigate your way through divided loyalties, earning a living wage, and making a life in Canada. #StPatricksDay More info: https://bit.ly/38OsxTi

Follow up! This is a Dissolving View Magic Lantern, manufactured by Abraham & Company in 1845. Magic Lanterns are an early type of image projector. Magic lanterns were developed for both education and entertainment: to tell stories through dramatic readings. In the mid-1800s it was a way of getting art and everyday life to a wider audience.

We need your help this #GivingTuesday! With doors closed at Black Creek Pioneer Village, this year has been a difficult one to fund the daily care that ensures our 60 heritage and rare breed animals are healthy and happy. Please consider donating to the BCPV Animal Care Fund! Make an important difference in the care of our farmyard friends until we all can safely return to the Village. They neigh, baa, bleat and cluck their thanks!... Help us remain a one-of-a-kind education facility and reach our goal of raising $50,000 by making a donation to the BCPV Animal Care Fund!

Much like English Lop rabbits, guinea pigs were popular pets in the 1800s. Did you know their teeth are constantly growing so it’s important for them to chew to wear them down! #animaltherapy

Swags with natural swagger! Every November the Village’s gardening staff and a dedicated group of volunteers create swags to adorn building windows and doors using plant material harvested from the market garden or from around the site. Strawflower, teasel, common milkweed follicles, rosehips, sumac, white sage, and broom corn are harvested and dried as early as July to celebrate the season and the year’s bounty!

Some say black cats are witches in disguise. And we’ll bet you've heard that, if a black cat crosses your path, you're in for a host of bad luck. We say that our black cats, Friday and Tux, are only bad luck for the barn mice!
