New Brunswick home-made producers are knocking on the door of Mr. Blaine Higgs' new government. They want to settle the controversy surrounding the agreement wi...th ANBL. The group, which includes about 100 owners of microbreweries, vineyards, distilleries and cideries across the province, has been critical of the lack of free enterprise in their industry since the imposition of new rules by the Crown Corporation earlier this year. We believe that the citizens of the province of New Brunswick are shareholders of ANBL. We need ANBL's revenues, but it must not come at the expense of local businesses, and this includes our farmers. It is the role of the government to make decisions for the economic good of the entire province. Our province must grow together and craft alcohol producers can make a difference. We need a government that encourages investment by local businesses, and craft alcohol producers are experts in helping in the development of 48 communities across the province. We want to be part of the solution; we don't want charity or to criticize unproductively. We would like a constructive change in philosophy when it comes to local products. We need to stabilize the risks of regulations imposed by the monopoly corporation that undermine private investment in our beautiful province. - Local products that do not reach the volume requirements set by ANBL will be removed from NB liquor stores, even if they create jobs and help our local economy. This new policy will only contribute to the closure of local businesses, especially during the current economic recovery. - We will have to go through a non-refrigerated centralized warehouse, and will have to pay the price determined by ANBL. This is like a new tax, because this is a mandatory new storage fee. Our members who are with the centralized warehouse notice that shelves of local products are often left empty for a very long time, this is not to the advantage of our small producers in New Brunswick. If we do not perform, local products will be removed from the ANBL stores. - More work needs to be done to reduce red tape. For the past few months, the process of registering a local product increased from 30 days to 6 to 9 months. - We are asking for fair trade agreements with other Canadian provinces. Our members tell us that there are 18,000 bottles of Nova Scotia wine in ANBL stores and no New Brunswick wines are available in Nova Scotia. We would like to have a discussion with Mr. Higgs and his caucus, as we would like to contribute more to the development of our province.
