On New Year's Day, John's Restaurant Sarnia and Philly Cheese Jakes, in partnership with the Bluewater Health Foundation, opened to cook our dedicated staff delicious meals. The change is required while construction is undertaken to improve the foot traffic in the main hallway of the hospital and provide an indoor waiting option during the colder weather ahead. This week is Respiratory Therapy Week! Respiratory therapists (RTs) use their knowledge and skills to provide safe, high-quality care. They are experts who work to diagnose, treat and manage conditions of people at all stages of life, from newborns who are having difficulty breathing to those who need respiratory support because they are critically ill or severely injured. Their hard work and unique set of skills help to save lives. They have played and will continue to play a vital role in our fight against COVID-19, working on the front line with COVID positive patients. It’s Diabetes Awareness Month and today has been named #WorldDiabetesDay, the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin with Charles Best in 1922. Diabetes is a disease in which your body can't produce or use its insulin properly. The BWH Diabetes Clinic helps diabetic patients manage the disease through nutrition, physical activity, medications, non-insulin injectables, and/or insulin therapy. NPs have a long range of additional nursing experience and education. Working with health-care providers, they... improve patients' lives by treating illnesses and teaching patients how to live healthier lives. NPs are leaders and researchers who bring medical knowledge to their work with the values of nursing.
