To our wonderful patients and families, The Ministry of Health and the Royal College has given dental offices the green light to open their clinics as part of a phased approach under strict guidelines. We are super excited to receive the news . The office as well as certain orthodontic procedures now require special preparation by our staff . Flexibility for some appointments may be challenging for the next little while until the phased approach is over. Therefore, we are aga...in asking for your patience while we are working hard to perfect our systems and environment to ensure the safety of our patients, our team, and their families. We are asking of you the following: 1) Unless you have an emergency, please don’t call the office. The office is still closed. We will get in touch with you based on your appointment type and the length of time it has been since you were last seen. Only call if you have not heard from us by June 20 2) Complete the Government COVID-19 Self-Assessment within 12 hours prior to your appointment. https://covid-19.ontario.ca/self-assessment/ 3) We will be screening you on the phone and on arrival which will include measuring temperature 4) If you are directed to seek medical attention pursuant to the Self Assessment, screened positive for any COVID symptoms, or if you are not feeling well, Please don’t come in to the clinic . We will reschedule your appointment accordingly 5) Patients are to brush their teeth for 5 minutes at home before your appointments. Brushing stations will be temporarily closed 6) Only one person to accompany the patient . Whenever possible, non-patients should wait in the car or outside the clinic 7) Unless required, no one other than patients will be allowed in the treatment area 8) In the clinic, please ensure you wear a mask (provide your own due to shortage of PPEs), utilize the hand sanitizers, avoid touching things, and maintain physical distancing rules 9) Your next appointment will be booked via email, phone, or text. To our patients and their families: It seems like we are getting close to being allowed to operate again. As of today, only a few dental clinics are operating under strict guidelines to perform procedures considered as urgent or emergencies. Most other dental offices, including orthodontic offices, are still under the order to cease all non essential procedures. The orders come from the Ministry of Health and the Royal College of Dental Surgeons. They will be mandating cert...ain guidelines once we are back to work. However, it looks like the restrictions will be lifted in the coming weeks. We are working hard to implement systems to allow us to catch up and minimize the effect of delays on your treatment. We will update everyone once the guidelines are received and we are allowed to open. Meanwhile, we are always available if you have any concern or emergency. Elastics are worn with braces and aligners to help correct the bite or prevent an unwanted side effect. You have been instructed to wear a specific type in a specific pattern , full time or part time. On the positive side, this is a wonderful opportunity to maintain the wonderful job if you were steady or to catch up and compensate if elastics were not worn as prescribed. Now we are closed and you are wondering !! Follow these instructions: 1. Wear elastics at night only 2. ...If you are out, Email us and we will mail you a pack 3. If you notice an unusual situation such as bite getting worse or teeth shifting : Stop ! Get in touch with us for further instructions If you are wearing elastics in combination with a removable retainer ( other than clear aligners) such as face mask , or fixed expanders ,then STOP the elastics until we are able to re-evaluate. Whatever orthodontic treatment you are going through, please follow these simple instructions: 1. Keep your teeth clean. Keep them healthy. Brush and floss. You don't want an extra problem when you go back 2. Avoid anything that may cause an emergency. Hard stuff, playing with your braces, aligners, or appliance...etc We r...ealize that this situation could cause a delay in your treatment but in many cases it will not, provided you have very little to no appliance repairs when we are back. If you are currently on clear aligner treatment, then please follow the instructions below: * The aim now is to maintain or progress at a rate that doesn't require any more trays than you have. * Consider reducing the daily wear to 8 to 10 hours * Consider wearing each aligner for 3 to 4 weeks ... * If you are on elastics then switch to night time use only * If you lose an attachment, don't worry * Remember that you have to wear and maintain the last aligner you have until the office reopens. At this stage, we are following Public Health orders. Mainly, we know that this could affect the treatment progress. We will get back on track when this period is safely over. If you currently have a palatal expander, or any other similar appliance that is attached to your teeth then please follow these instructions : * Don't activate the expander. Don't do the turns. Stop ! * Don't play with expander. It will loosen up and cause an emergency * Keep it clean. Brush it well and often using your regular tooth brush. Also use the small xmas tree brush to get to the tight areas... * Avoid excessive sticky and grainy foods. Also avoid hard candy that may cause some damage The appliance will not do any harm staying on the teeth. We will pick up where we left off upon return.
