My statement below on today’s state of emergency declaration by the Province. A glaring gap was sick pay benefits.
Thank you to MP for Malton and Minister of Innovation, Navdeep Bains for his service to the residents of Mississauga. While we're disappointed to see you go, family must always come first. We wish you all the best on your future endeavours as you spend time with your family.

Special congratulations to Marc Garneau on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Having worked alongside Marc in Parliament, I know firsthand just how committed he is to fighting for Canadians and making our country even stronger. Mississauga wishes you all the best.
Tonight, we will be lighting our clock tower blue to recognize Human Rights Day. Human rights are universal and absolute, they belong to everyone and they must be central in our COVID-19 recovery efforts. Our work never stops to advance human rights here at home and around the world.
Honoured to have Hazel join Council today to officially congratulate her on the renaming of our Central Library to the Hazel McCallion Central Library, in honour of her 100th birthday in 2021! Thank you Hazel for your years of incredible service to the great City of Mississauga.
Congratulations to my colleague, friend and Mississauga’s very own Omar Alghabra on his appointment as Minister of Transport. Our City looks forward to continuing to work with you on building public transit in the GTA and beyond. We wish you luck on this well deserved promotion.
Wonderful evening at this year’s virtual 'Twas the BITE Before Christmas Ladies Night, raising important funds to help our neighbours in need this holiday season. Thank you to the team at 'Twas the Bite for generously donating food and funds across our City throughout the pandemic.
Every week I give an update on COVID numbers in Mississauga. It's easy to forget that these numbers represent real people suffering from the virus, real people dying from COVID. We have to remember the huge sacrifices we're making are to protect the most vulnerable in our City.
Free voluntary COVID-19 testing is now available at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Testing at our airports adds another layer of protection that help us control spread and keep Canadians safe. Thank you to the Ontario Government for getting this important initiative off the ground.
COVID-19 has resulted in a surge of gender-based violence in our City. Leaving a violent situation is becoming increasingly challenging for survivors. This International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we acknowledge more work needs to be done to achieve gender equality.
LIVE: Tune in to my weekly COVID-19 press conference.
Daily COVID-19 Update.
Today Mississauga recorded 162 COVID-19 cases, the largest increase we’ve seen in a single day since the onset of the pandemic. This is a serious situation. Everyone needs to buckle down and limit their close in-person contact to just their households. Please do the right thing.
All City of Mississauga public facilities are closed. This includes our community centres, pools, fitness centres, arenas, the Small Arms Building, Living Arts Centre, Meadowvale Theatre and Museums of Mississauga. The Mississauga Library is offering limited services. More here: http://ow.ly/Hn9A50CtE9W
I’m urging everyone in Mississauga to limit their close in-person contact to their immediate household. COVID cases in our City continue to be driven by both small and large social gatherings. As the Premier warned today, Peel is staring down the barrel of another lockdown.
So proud of Peel Regional PolicePolice for their work on Project Siphon that targeted gang activity in Peel and led to 88 arrests, 800+ charges, the seizure of 34 firearms and close to $2M of illegal drugs. Thank you to all our officers for making our community safer. http://ow.ly/JQRi50Cow1o
