TOWN OF BOTWOOD NEW BULK GARBAGE - CURBSIDE PICKUP SERVICE The Town of Botwood will be piloting a new curbside bulk garbage pickup service this summer. The service is intended to help residents of Botwood dispose of bulk household items. In addition, the town will be establishing a new drop off site for grass cuttings. The program will run on a trial basis throughout the summer beginning on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. This service is not meant for large volumes of bulk wast...e. Construction, renovation and demolition materials (such as windows, door and wooden flooring) will not be picked up and these materials are to be taken to the Central NL Waste Management facilities. Rather, the program is intended to accommodate infrequent, low volume, difficult to dispose of items. The total weight of the bulk items for pickup cannot exceed 100 kg (220 lbs.) per call. As well items must be capable to be hand loaded by two people. There are limits on what items can be accepted - over weight, bundling, size etc. This pilot project is intended to help residents dispose of bulky items not accommodated by our weekly household waste pickup. Items that can be collected at the curbside pickup by town staff are: Metals - such as old BBQs (no propane tanks), hot water tanks, washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators (freon removed) Furniture - maximum two pieces Table and Chairs set, coffee and end tables Carpet and vinyl flooring Large cardboard boxes such as an appliance box Please note: wood, construction, renovation and demolition materials will not be accepted. HOW THE SERVICE WORKS BULK ITEMS This service is by appointment only. Residents must call the Town Hall at 257-2839 before noon on Monday to request to have their waste picked up on the assigned Wednesday. Town staff will ask about the item(s) and confirm the date. There will be limited number of pickup appointments. The goal is to offer the service twice monthly (depending upon demand). Residents will be required to have their items to the curb by 8:00 a.m. on the confirmed collection date. Remember the total weight of the bulk pickup items is 100 kg (220 lbs.) per call. All households will be eligible for up to two bulk pickup appointments annually. A $25 fee will apply to the third or additional request. GRASS CUTTINGS Grass cuttings can be dropped off at the designated marked area at the Public Works Depot parking lot on Fernwood Drive. Grass cuttings MUST be in clear plastic bags with a maximum weight of 18 kg (40 lbs.) a bag.
