In Flanders Fields BY JOHN MCCRAE In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row,... That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. _________________________________________ Brackendale Montessori School remembers those who gave the ultimate sacrifice today. Together with our staff, students, and administration we will be stopping for a moment of silence, sharing personal stories about family and friends who served in the military, and reading stories about the importance of today. Passing down the importance of Remembrance Day ensures that the next generation will understand that brave men and women fought and still fight for our freedom. Today We Remember .

"The development of language is part of the development of the personality, for words are the natural means of expressing thoughts and establishing understanding between people." Maria Montessori _______________________________... The beauty of Montessori is that each lesson builds upon the last lesson using the skills and knowledge already acquired and adding the next element to further learning. As shown in the pictures, first we see our sandpaper letters. The sandpaper letters introduce the sounds of the alphabet through touch, sound and sight. Next we see the Moveable Alphabet, where the child strings together the sounds he knows to form a word. This material carries forward the letters shape and calls the child to manipulate the materials. Last we see the Storybook Alphabet where the child forms words in order to form sentences. This material still calls for thoughtful movement to create full ideas. From the beginning materials to the later materials, Maria Montessori knew that children under the age of 6 require movement in their daily activities. The sensorial child has a better chance of committing ideas to memory when we offer the lessons through multiple senses (sight, audio, olfactory, taste and touch). When we have familiarity in the materials, we also reduce the risk of intimidation when delivering a new lesson because the child already feels comfortable with the previous lesson which prepared him for his next step. Montessori is truly amazing. Have a wonderful day everyone

He does it with his hands, by experience, first in play and then through work. The hands are the instruments of man’s intelligence. In the Montessori curriculum the child experiences hands-on learning. ALL materials have a hands on approach which calls for the child to hold, feel, and manipulate objects. Dr. Maria Montessori knew the hand was at the heart of education and that the brain and hand must work together in harmony. Neuroscientists over 100 years later would confi...rm Dr. Montessori's theory. Lets get those hands moving! Have a great day
