THE GIANT HAS AWOKEN! Well, it looks like restrictions are being reduced by the Ontario Government which means we will be returning to the ORANGE level. We are still limited to the number of people per class. We are going to ask the members that were with us when we had to shut down on Dec. 23rd to return if they like. So, our regular classes will commence on Wednesday Feb. 17th for those that were members at the time of the shut down. We will be returning to the same class t...imes as before for the kids and the adult classes. All social distancing measures are still in place. Wearing a mask into and out of the building, signing the tracking sheet at the front door and staying 3 meters apart while in the gym. As always please do not come to the gym if you are not feeling well. Take the night off. Hopefully, things keep going in the right direction and as time goes by, and we move down the COVID19 response framework, we will be allowed to return to larger size classes and accommodate everyone. Hey everyone great news! On a relatively quiet amateur boxing scene, two of our boxers Kelsie MacPhee and Liam Welsh were awarded the 2021 DO (Dameon Okposio) Youth Boxing Scholarship. The $500 scholarship includes a upcoming feature for Kelsie and Liam in the next Below The Belt Magazine! Both Liam and Kelsie submitted and essay about their amateur boxing experiences and examples of service they have provided to the community. Hello all, Just in time for Christmas we are doing the 2020 "Blackeye Christmas Tree Challenge" Following Darebees model we are going to throw out a challenge to our members. We have 8 different challenges to choose from. Starting Wednesday December 9th till Saturday December 19th, you have 10 days to complete your challenge. Complete one and get a Christmas decoration on our tree at the club. ... Have the Jam to do more than one? It's on the honor system, so you keep track of your totals. Reps can be counted anywhere. At home or the club. Spread them out over the day. We are not keeping track of names etc. As previously mentioned, it is on your honor. 2021 DO YOUTH BOXING SCHOLARSHIP *We are taking submissions now!* I started a scholarship with the Hope for Children Foundation in 2000 and gave the scholarship... away each year for several years. The Hope for Children Foundation has grown to receive generous donations from a wide variety of sources and I felt that it was time to shift my scholarship to boxing. On Saturday, July 18, 2015, I gave away the first DO Youth Boxing Scholarship and I have been able to continue this tradition each year. Youth involved in boxing between the ages of 15 to 18 are eligible to receive the scholarship. Submissions for 2021 can be made from now until January 15, 2021 when the recipient will be selected. The scholarship will be presented at the 2021 Ontario Boxing Hall of Fame Induction at a date and time to be announced. The youth will have to send in an essay on: 1. Who they are. 2. What boxing means to them. 3. How they are involved in their community. Additional criteria: You must reside in Ontario and must have competed in a minimum of one amateur bout either with Boxing Ontario or the Ontario Boxing Association. All essays should be submitted by email to: [email protected] (Please don't place passwords or any type of hindrance to opening your document). The youth chosen for the scholarship will receive a $500 scholarship (with no conditions on use) and they will be profiled in an upcoming issue of Below the Belt Boxing Magazine. We opened today to classes of eight. Everyone was smiling, yelling and laughing. All while social distancing. Things we learned: Be 10 mins early before your class starts. We only have 45mins to get things done. We will start without you. Bring a towel with you to wipe the sweat off your body during rest breaks. Very important. ... Come ready to go. There is no place to change. If you bring a gym bag leave it in the hallway. Bring your own equipment. Skipping rope, bag gloves, hand weights, water and towel. Gotta say, THAT WAS FUN!

We got the green light to open from Boxing Ontario today! A big shout out to all the people at Boxing Ontario involved with getting our boxing community going again. The COVID task force did an excellent job! Still waiting for word from the Brant County Health Unit. Should be getting an answer this week. All coaches are going to meet and come up with the next part. Our class sizes are only 10 people including the coach. So basically 9 people per class. So we need to figure ou...t what our new schedule is going to look like and who is doing what. Stay tuned for more details as they emerge. I am going to post our internal procedures document next. This is a must read for all members planning on returning to the gym. It will be posted on the wall at the gym and printed copies will be available as well. I will also be going live this Wednesday night at 6pm for a workout. Coach Rob

Just a little heads up. We are working on reopening. Timeline unknown at this point. Limited number of people as well to start. Things will be eased into over time. Boxing Ontario is working with the government and guiding all clubs on reopening. You must be a valid and current 2020 member of Boxing Ontario to restart. So, for our social members you will have to apply for a Recreational Membership. The cost is $20. I will attach the form. You will have to send it in. More details to follow over the coming days. Hello all, Back from up North. Going to go live around 4pm today. I have a meeting at 6pm. Sorry. As always these workouts can be done live with me or done at your convenience. Cardio warmup followed by stretching.... You will need hand weights we will be working our arms so you may want a couple of different sized weights. After that some core with weights mostly on the ground. Just after 4pm. I still gotta set up. Lol See more
