Why do I do this? At 16 I fractured my Tibia/Fibula, tore my ACL/MCL, and had been through multiple surgeries because of sports injuries. I was in and out of clinics during my extended rehab program. This is where I saw the value in what we do. ... My chiropractor was able to assist me in the process the whole way. Helping me manage edema, retrain muscle and ultimately get back to playing shape. This journey took several years but in the end I was still able to compete collegiately and a HUGE reason for that was my chiropractor. This truly inspired me to become what I am today and I look forward to helping people achieve their goals! What can manual therapy do for you? Shoulder dysfunction is something that I see in the clinic quite frequently. @alexanderwkato is an example of a very active patient who works from home and also strength trains 4-5 times per week. He is a kin major and is well versed in lifting technique and healthy lifestyle habits.... Even well trained individuals need help sometimes balancing the muscles of the rotator cuff as well as the shoulder capsule itself. Alex was asked to simply raise his arm above his head. The before and after pictures are the result of specific manual therapy techniques designed to balance the shoulder and properly coordinate shoulder movements. Come see what soft tissue techniques can do for you! *patient consented to release of information* #chiropractor #toronto #gtachiro #manualtherapy #movement #exercise #shoulder #strengthtraining

The human brain uses upwards of 20% of your body's energy in one day. This equates to approximately 400 calories a day in the average person! What does this mean for trying to lose weight?... The vast majority of food you eat is used to run body processes other than using muscles, such as your liver and kidneys. Muscles also only account for about 20% of energy expenditure of your resting metabolism. What this means is that controlling your calorie intake is vastly more important than emphasizing exercise when trying to shed some pounds! *I am not advocating not exercising. Exercise has numerous benefits and is linked to a wide variety of positive health effects from improving mental health to decreasing risk of cardiovascular disease. Very simply if you are running yourself into the ground exercising and still not seeing results maybe it's time to analyze what you're eating! Reference: Berg, J. M., Tymoczko, J. Whether it is through endorphin release, improved circulation or just the effect of forgetting about your problems, exercise is a great tool to combat mental health disorders. Concussions Classically defined as a traumatic brain injury which is often the result of head trauma during sport. Concussions are one of today’s main topics yet the most effective treatments are not often utilized. Rest ... The classic treatment for a brain injury is to sleep it off. This is the most common misconception. Studies have shown that rest should not last longer than 24-48 hours, until common side effects like dizziness and vomiting will subside. Prolonged rest after head trauma may actually cause DECREASED recovery time. Rehab & vestibular training Research is still ongoing however it is clear that a constructive rehab program involving vestibular training and low-intensity aerobic exercise is best. You want your brain to be active and retraining pathways, specifically balance and coordination. This does not mean a quick return to sport or heavy exercise!! Caution should still be used because of the increased risk of recurrent concussion. Can chiropractic help? Chiropractors are trained to manage conditions involving the nervous system, this includes concussions. Using vestibular training as well as manual therapy to the head and neck your chiropractor can help relieve your symptoms and return to activity. Reference: Schneider KJ, et al.
