Forgive us if there are some repeats - hard to keep track some times but all our fair people are important to us. Let's go back 2006 and 2007! Please tag and share with friends! If you know the name of the individuals in the pix, let us know and we will do an edit.

Moore Agricultural Society would like to take this opportunity to once again thank everyone who supported the Harvest of Gold 50/50 online draw. Today we had the opportunity to meet with our winner, Amanda Andersen and her family from Kimball Sideroad. As a family, they are also giving back to the community with donations to the Petrolia Angel Tree, The Vineyard, Operation Christmas and local food banks. Congratulations Amanda.

As we are remembering all the great times at Brigden Fair -Here is a way that you can help us to continue the traditions and family memories..... Why not help support the fair and also have a chance at the jackpot..... Our friends at Glencoe Fair held a similar draw and the winner took home over $188,000???? ******** For a number of years, Brigden Fair has hosted a "Harvest of Gold" 50/50 draw. With the absence of a fair this year (due to COVID-19), we have decided to take th...e raffle digital with an online draw. Tickets went on sale Friday, October 9 at 10 a.m. which would have been the first day of our fair. This is a great way to help support Moore Agricultural Society - Home of the Brigden Fair so we can come back stronger in 2021. It is easy to play and get your tickets by going to https://brigdenfair.thelottofactory.com and following the directions. You can purchase different numbers of tickets 1/$5; 10/$40; 25/$75 or 50/$100. Draw date will be December 1, 2020. This is a one draw Raffle and not a progressive one. Be sure to choose the Harvest of Gold Draw option. Don't delay! Buy your tickets now and watch the jackpot grow. Wouldn't it be nice to win 50% of the jackpot before Christmas? See more

Thanks to all the volunteers for helping with winter storage today. This would be the first time in many years that we've been "full" on the very first day! If anyone wants to store a small item, such as a small boat or car please let us know as we have a couple spaces left and will be filling them by appointment only. Our apologies to everyone we weren't able to accommodate this year as we have limited space. COVID increased the number of units seeking storage this winter. Please don't forget us for next year!

Brigden Fair 09.06.2020

A regular feature at #LCArchives highlights stories from our collection. This week, we are sharing the story of the Brigden Fair! The first 'Moore Fair' was hel...d at the Riley Farm (8th Line of Moore) in 1850, with neighbors bringing their prized cattle and horses for a judging competition. Over the next few years, the competition moved to Corunna and Mooretown. The fair grew with the completion of the railroad from Courtright to St. Thomas in 1871, and additional competitions and exhibitions were added every year. It was not until 1881, that the Moore Agricultural Society decided to purchase a permanent fairground in Brigden. A 15-acre tract of land was purchased from J. Battram, and the 'Lorne House' Hotel was used to host displays and exhibitions. The Bridgen Fair became a homecoming event for many, with out-of-town visitors arriving by carriage and train. As the Brigden Fair grew (exponentially) over the subsequent decades, additional land was purchased and more buildings were added. The Brigden Fair reached 'Class B' status in 1951, and 'Class A' status in 1973. While many agricultural exhibitions are still hosted today, the Brigden Fair has also seen the addition of a Midway, motocross demonstrations and other modern attractions. The Ladies Section played a large role in the development of the Brigden Fair; maintaining the fairgrounds and buildings, and hosting numerous fundraisers. The Fair Ladies added a full banquet facility to accommodate banquets and weddings, making use of the fairgrounds year-round. They have also been credited with paying off the mortgages on the Exhibition Hall, the Coliseum, and 40 acres of land! Pictured is a Sarnia Observer Negative from the 1957 Brigden Fair, captioned: "A boy brushes his heifer for show at the Brigden Fall Fair, the biggest one day fair in Ontario." For more information on the Brigden Fair, contact the Lambton County Archives. What is your favorite memory of the Brigden Fair?
