And earlier today, at the cenotaph of the Oro Fairgrounds, Mayor and Council of the Township of Oro-Medonte organized a very fitting homage to Canada’s Armed Forces, past and present, and to those who gave their lives in service of peace and our freedoms. It was an unusually warm day for November 8th - and honoured to join my colleagues Doug Shipley, MP (Barrie - Springwater - Oro-Medonte), Hon. Doug Downey MPP and Attorney General of Ontario and members of Council - Mayor Hu...ghes, Deputy Mayor Hough, and Councillor’s Keane, Scott, DeSousa, Greenlaw and Veitch. Also good to see Councillor Scott in his Peel Region Police uniform, and Ret’d Col Robert Douglas, representing the The Grey and Simcoe Foresters, our County’s only active, reserve regiment, based in Barrie and Owen Sound. Thanks to the staff of the Township, organizers and representatives of local Lions Clubs, Oro Fair Board (John Crawford), Oro-Medonte Horticultural Society (Doris Crawford), and Women’s Institutes in Hawkestone, Oro and Crown Hill.

Attended two, limited and socially-distanced Remembrance ceremonies this weekend. The first was on Saturday in Victoria Harbour - RCL Branch 523 - organized and hosted with up to 50 people from the Township of Tay attending along the sidewalk and street nearby. All were wearing masks and keeping a safe distance. Special thanks to Randy Hipson, M.C., 1st Vice-President Bob Ladouceur, Padre Lois Brown and Poppy Chair, Klara Morritti, for presiding over the service. Ed Hubbard also served as Parade Marshall and Colour Sergeant, and Tony Beresford did the honours of the Last Post and Rouse in WWI army dress and with an authentic bugle. Thanks to all who took time to pay tribute to Canada’s fallen, Veterans and currently serving men and women in uniform.
