Sorry for the quality of this picture, I only had my phone on me this morning, but I couldn't resist taking this. This ewe was sound asleep on the other ewe who was quietly chewing cud.

Feel good dog story of the day. Last night the sheep came home on their own (also breaking out of a fence and continuing down the highway, but that's another story), I didn't bother to go check the pasture that they were on for the day, my mistake. This morning I go to let the sheep out and Ella, one of the livestock guard dogs is missing. I walk out to the pasture that the sheep were on and sure enough there is Ella, she sat out all night with a ewe that was cast (stuck on her back) in the field. She probably saved this ewe's life, we have a large amount of coyotes around right now, but nothing touched this ewe.

Often people ask us what is the one thing we couldn't do without on the farm, and without hesitation we answer "our dogs". They are very hard working and save us many steps. The LGD's (livestock guardian dog) live with the sheep all the time and protect them from predators. The border collies are used for herding.
