We have been listening and learning seeking to understand what is happening and our role in it all. As artists and leaders that live and work in the street dance community, we have a responsibility to consider recent events with great pause. bsoFlo was founded upon a love and passion for Hip-Hop, and the pursuit of sharing in its culture with others. As Hip-Hop is and always will be a part of Black culture, we are privileged to take part in the art form as guests. As a comm...unity passionate about the movement, music, and other expressions of Hip-Hop culture, we must do more to understand, acknowledge, and promote the awareness of its origins but more crucially today, we must stand with the community that created this art form we so love, and help fight for the racial equality and justice that every human-being on this earth deserves. Thank-you to 3rd Street Beat Entertainment Inc. for the following definition: Hip-hop is defined as a cultural response to historic oppression and racism, a system for communication among marginalized communities throughout the United States. As an entity of Brenda's School of Baton and Dance that benefits from this cultural response, we have an absolute responsibility to bring awareness to the oppression of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) today, and do our part to help effect change. We realize the importance to be evermore considerate and mindful in our operations as a studio moving forward to better educate ourselves, our dancers, and our community about Hip-Hop, and to be steadfast in our support of the culture that created it. While the prevalence of the Black Lives Matter Movement today is widespread, we understand the reality that the media will ebb and flow among other social justice movements and events in the future. In order for lasting change to occur, it is crucial for there to be consistent, unwavering support from influencers in our community support that continues in the face of other media topics taking the spotlight. While the media will change with time, our connection to Hip-Hop culture as dancers will not. In the immediate future, we will be taking initiatives with BSOBAD to help fight against injustices toward BIPOC. We have so much to learn and do, and while these are small steps forward, we hope that with consistency, we will contribute to positive change. With Love, bsoFlo. #BLM
