A fundraising concert in support of The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund, we welcome you to join Tom Wilson, Twin Flames, Phil Davis’ Drum Circle and Hoop Dancer, Kevin Fox and more for a special evening to celebrate the man, the music, and his enduring legacy. In his final days, Canadian icon Gord Downie spent his time shining a light on reconciliation with Canada’s First Peoples. Performing their own versions of your favourite Gord Downie / Tragically Hip songs, and telling stories, these artists will join in our collective reconciliation journey to promote awareness, education, and thoughtful action.
Into The Woods is a musical journey that intertwines several beloved Brothers Grimm characters and explores the consequences of their individual wishes and wants. Characters include Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and the Beanstalk), Rapunzel, and Cinderella to name a few. At the centre of the story is a childless baker and his wife who will do anything to have a family but they encounter a powerful witch who has placed a curse on them. Throughout this magical journey, characters from different fables encounter each other as they fight for what they believe is their happily ever after. Tickets are now available for Talk is Free Theatre's November 27 - December 6 run of Into The Woods: In Concert. https://burlingtonpac.ca/events/into-the-woods/

"Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door"... A Poe Cabaret comes to BPAC for two shows Nov. 8, combining the compelling and tragic life story of Edgar Allan Poe with great music conjured in his honour. The evening is haunted by three of Poe’s greatest stories: The Fall of the House of Usher, The Masque of Red Death and a startling musical setting of Poe’s greatest success, and deepest heartbreak The Raven. https://burlingtonpac.ca/events/a-poe-cabaret/

Maurice Ruddick, an African Canadian, was awarded Citizen of the Year for saving the lives of his fellow workers after a historic mining disaster in Springhill, Nova Scotia in 1958. Actor Beau Dixon will recall the events of seven miners trapped two miles beneath a small mining town, the effect it had on their rural Canadian community and the racial tension that surfaced as a result. Only two performances of this one-of-a-kind theatre experience, Oct. 17 and 18. https://burlingtonpac.ca/events/beneath-springhill/

In August of 2016, inspired by the story of Chanie Wenjack, Gord Downie asked all Canadians to look at the state of Indigenous-settler relations in this country, and to Do Something to change them for the better. On Oct 15 & 16 at 8pm, BPAC is hosting LEGACY A Tribute to Gord Downie featuring Tom Wilson in support of the Downie Wenjack Fund. We welcome you to join Tom Wilson, Twin Flames, Phil Davis’ Drum Circle and Hoop Dancer, Kevin Fox and more for a special evening to... celebrate the man, the music, and his enduring legacy. http://ow.ly/oQGf50BuBqQ _____ #SecretPathWeek is a national movement commemorating the legacies of Gord and Chanie, taking place from October 17-22. We call on all Canadians to use Secret Path Week to answer Gord Downie’s call to action, to #DoSomething by creating a #reconciliACTION and furthering the conversation about the history of Residential Schools.
Sending a huge thanks to Mayor Marianne Meed Ward for taking the much-appreciated time (bright and early!) to record our new front of house announcements reinforcing our new safety measures. As usual, we had a great time with you.
