Summer 2020 Explorations Pt 7 - Pine River Wild Camping. A bit of a disappointing day today as we had a list of historic sites we wanted to see around Dawson Creek and Chetwynd, but unfortunately were unable to find any of the actual locations (and LOL, because co-pilot made this list, you can be sure it did NOT include fire lookouts or waterfalls!). On the bright side, co-pilot got to see Dawson Creek for the first time ever.

Summer 2020 Explorations Pt 6 - Puggins Fire Lookout. Back in BC, and yet again (more likely, still), Tom was on a mission to find yet another fire lookout. At least this one was one we could drive to! We dropped the trailer at about km 14 on what appeared to be a staging area, on whatever road we were on (co-pilot had lost track by this time), and after about another 3 km of driving, and a few deep puddles/ponds to cross (remember that any water crossings of any kind are beyond immensely stressful for co-pilot), we got to the fire lookout.

July 2020 Growler's First Road Trip Pt 1 - Lumby, BC. This post introduces "Growler," Tom's latest acquisition. Growler is a 2008 JK Rubicon that he bought (just 2 days before this trip) because it had a 5.7 Hemi engine and air conditioning (neither of which Buster had). Unfortunately, the air conditioning was not working at the time (and, lol, despite a couple repair attempts, still is not working). While most of our adventures are "just for fun," this one had a specific purpose. We borrowed an enclosed trailer from one of Tom's friends as we needed to retrieve co-pilot's recently-deceased father's belongings from the Lumby storage unit where local family members had placed them. But...a road trip is a road trip, and we took some time on this one to see what we could.

July 2020 Buster's Last Road Trip Pt 22- Heading Home. After a lot of miles, a lot of new places visited and a lot of waterfalls, this trip, our last with Buster, was coming to a close as we made our way back home. (Although, later in the year we brought Buster out of "retirement" because some fool had smashed the rear gate window in our son's YJ and due to it's age, replacement glass was difficult to find, and he still needed a vehicle to get to/from work. Buster to the rescue!)

Summer 2020 Explorations Pt 3 - Muskeg Falls, Alberta. After visiting Moberly Fire Lookout, we traveled another 30 km down the highway to check out Muskeg Falls. It took us about 20 minutes down to the falls, and 30 minutes back up. The start of the trail is easy, then there gets to be more fallen trees to step over (or climb over, if you are short like co-pilot). The trail is quite steep in sections (with many exposed roots that act as obstacles on the way down, and grab handles on the way back up), with the last 500 m or so down to the falls being wicked steep! This is not a hike we would recommend doing if it is raining, as the trail would be incredibly slippery.

Summer 2020 Explorations Pt 2 - Moberly Fire Lookout. Located near Hinton, Alberta, this lookout has an elevation of 1676 m/5499 ft. Tom's recent passion for lookouts and waterfalls involve a lot of walking uphill. Co-pilot likes walking, but not uphill, so I was not sure about this. He assured me that "the map shows a road so we can drive right to it." Well...ok, let's go.

July 2020 Buster's Last Road Trip Pt 20- Valemount, BC. With this current adventure coming to an end, we decided to ensure our final day of travel was an easy one, leaving just a few hours to go before arriving home. This meant finding a place to spend the night near Valemount, BC. Since we have been in this area many times, we know we can always find a place at the base of Canoe Mountain...and we did.

July 2020 Buster's Last Road Trip Pt. 16 - Moul Falls. In Wells Gray Provincial Park, near Clearwater, BC, Moul Falls is on Grouse Creek. The falls are 35m (115 ft) high, and flow towards the Clearwater River. The falls are named after George Moul, who homesteaded nearby in 1915. The walking trail to the falls is about 3km (1.9 miles) each way, and the last part nearest the falls is very steep and of varying terrain (rocks, mud, exposed roots, etc), that is generally very wet and slippery! The bulk of the walking trail is fairly easy, and in the right season, offers a multitude of blueberries and huckleberries (and a few wild strawberries) for picking along the way. LOL! It took us twice as long on the return trip than it did heading to the falls because co-pilot stopped repeatedly to pick berries :)

Just upstream of the actual Dawson Falls, on the Murtle River in Wells Gray Provincial Park, BC. BAHAHAHAHA! Co-pilot got a huge kick out of watching this branch...it was as if the branch was helping the river on its way!
