Steele - Sept. 25, 1917 - Nov. 13, 2016 Known to his family and friends as Chuck, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and flew several Spitfire missions over Europe during WWII as part of the 411 Squadron. Born near the shores of Lake Erie and raised in Port Colborne, Ontario, Chuck took over his uncle's insurance business which is now known as C.M. Steele Insurance. He returned from the war, married his wife Gladys, celebrated 72 years of marriage and was the great-grandfather of 14. Chuck was able to celebrate his 99th birthday before his passing on 13 November 2016. Today we honour the bravery and commitment of Charles M. (Chuck) Steele of the Royal Canadian Air Force Squadron 411, and thank him and his family for their service. Lest we forget. #lestweforget #canadaremembers #11daysofremembrance

Update: 10/13/17 2:11 pm The samples taken from the Canal this morning have shown that there is no adverse impact on the water in the Canal and the foamy subs...tance on the surface of the Canal will dissipate. PUBLIC NOTICE: The City, Fire Department, Niagara Region & St. Lawrence Seaway are aware of a foamy substance in the Canal, South of Lock 8. The substance is suspected to be sea foam from turbulent water on Lake Erie, making its way through the Canal. Water samples have been taken and will be tested to confirm this. Please watch for further updates.

The Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services is warning residents of a company currently going door-to-door in Port Colborne insisting on conducting Home Inspect...ions. Residents are encouraged not to let them into their homes or provide them with any personal information. Below are photos of the company’s business cards along with phone numbers they are using. Some City of Port Colborne Municipal Law Enforcement Officer business cards with the name Travis Morden on them were left in residents mailboxes. Be advised he had no complaints or issues in that area. Travis the enforcement officer at City Hall is NOT the Travis of Ontario Safety Standards.
