Around this time of year, we start to see signs of Gypsy Moth. Here are a few things to keep in mind. GYPSY MOTH ON TOWN PROPERTY If Gypsy Moth is reported on ...Town property, please contact Service Caledon - 905.584.2272 x. 7750 or [email protected]. It will be investigated by Town arborist staff. They would generally survey the area for egg masses and decide what to do based on the severity of the infestation, level of defoliation, tree health, tree species and available resources. GYPSY MOTH ON PRIVATE PROPERTY The Town does not provide any resources for private property. Private property owners would need to consult with their chosen tree care professional to determine the best way to manage their own property. Learn more about Gypsy Moth on your property: caledon.ca/gypsymoth.

November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. It marks the first of a 16-day of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign. Every year, an average of 61 women in Canada are killed by their partners; 40 of these cases occur annually in Ontario alone. Women continue to be victims of violence which leaves damaging effects on individuals, families, children, and whole communities. Together as a community we need to take a stand against gender-based violence. www.un.org/en/events/endviolenceday

I think that focusing on gratitude may be just what we need to get through these days. I'm thankful for my family, my community, friends and for all of those who work in our food supply chain from farmers to grocers to restaurants and our social service agencies. Even though this thanksgiving will be different and our tables may be smaller, let's remember all we have to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving.

Today was the first Remembrance Day Service for 2020 and although we could only have a small number of attendees it was deeply reverent and meaningful. During the service it began to rain and the winds were strong; I couldn't help but think about those who served in times of war and the terrible conditions they had to endure for so many years. We Will Remember Them.

Tough Decisions in Challenging Times We are, officially, in a second wave of the pandemic and the Province has placed restrictions aimed to protect our most vulnerable. I am deeply concerned about local businesses that may be impacted by these restrictions. That’s why I spent the last few days in multiple meetings and phone calls, from early morning to late evening. I spoke to business leaders and shop owners about what this means to them. I met virtually with several Provin...cial Cabinet Ministers and I called the Premier himself to advocate for our businesses and talk about Caledon in terms of risks and cases. I was assured that was carefully considered and these tough decisions were based on science and at the strong recommendation of public health care professionals. The health and safety of residents was measured against the economic impacts. In a decision like this there is no win. It’s going to be hard and leaders from every level of government must continue to work together and do all we can to support business. I can’t say loudly enough how important it is to shop local and support local as they once again have to adapt and pivot under renewed restrictions. When I patron, visit, or post about a local restaurant, shop or service, I’m promoting Caledon business as a whole. Some will agree with decisions that have been made and others won’t. I respect that because I revere and believe that our democracy is built on the principles of freedom of expression, choice and action. As Mayor, I will continue to do my best each day to represent all the interests, both health and economic, of the Town of Caledon.

Statement from Peel Medical Officer of Health: In order to reduce the risk of COVID-19 in Peel, Peel Public Health supports the provincial decision today to inc...rease protective measures in bars, restaurants, gyms, banquet halls and other settings for Peel residents. We support the provincial measures here because we know that applying restrictions in a neighbouring city without introducing them here might move riskier behaviours into Peel’s bars, restaurants, gyms and other settings. We already have high rates of transmission in households, workplaces and social settings. We need to be consistent across all settings, so we don’t see high rates in other settings, too. Peel residents want us to do everything we can to stop spread of this disease. These measures will help us stamp out any dangerous embers now before they become flames. Thank you to everyone in Peel who continues to do their part to protect others your personal sacrifices have not gone unnoticed, and we still need your help to keep COVID-19 out of our community.
