Had a great time at our first in-person rehearsal! Here are a few of our choristers- holding this year's mascot, Harriet - a distant cousin of Hildegard- as we explore music that expresses joy and resilience in tough times. #yyc #choir #choirlife #COVID19
Singing can be good for your health!! A 2004 study by Dr. Gunter Kreutz showed that singing in a choir increases SIgA production which helps with immune function! Keep on singing everyone! We can’t wait to be singing together again as a choir family! Photo: rehearsal time during 2019 tour. Credit: Orbis

A common phenomenon that choristers experience is breath-taking moments, sometimes experienced as goosebumps, the hairs standing on the back of your neck, or tears. These are physical reactions to the beautiful music we can make together with others. Do you have a goosebump moment you remember from singing in choir? Please share in the comments!!! Video: One of our long time favourite: All Too Soon. No one's in doubt that the children singing, all too soon shall be women and men... And the canny old land that we never could command, it will roll to the ocean, again.
Did you know that it has been shown that singers have more circuit connections between the right and left sides of their brains than non-singers? Memorizing music and words involve both left and right brain function. Singing is good for your brain. Sing often!! We look forward with great anticipation to an opportunity to sing together as a choir family again! Singing is important as we age!! Neuroscientists have shown that musical memories engage broader neural pathways than other types of memories that’s why hearing an old song can flood one with very specific emotions and visual cues. What is a favourite choir song you can remember? Is there a choir piece you remember from waaay back? Tell us in the comments below. Video: Land of the Silver Birch - 2013 concert.
Did you know that some studies have shown that singing may increase prolactin production which helps regulate the immune system!! Keep yourself healthy with social distancing, hand washing, and lots of singing!! We can’t wait to sing together again! Photo cation Monet misses choir peeps.
