The other day I was reading an article about coaching and how to get the optimal performance from everyone on your team. Ironically the writer used a baseball analogy so i thought i would share. here is my paraphrased version of the story. 17 inches homeplate is 17 inches wide no matter what level of baseball you play. As pitchers grow and develop the 17 inches does not change. If a pitcher can't hit the 17 inches the plate is not adjusted to accommodate the pitcher. T...he pitcher needs to grow, develop and strengthen their skills to match the 17 inches of requirements. With that concept in mind why do we adjust training and expectations of others in the team? Success is important to all of us at any age. I understand that we all want out teams to feel successful and have confidence. As a coach you can still make the team members feel successful without changing the rules to accommodate each person. Success starts in small steps make sure you celebrate those wins at each step. Start a win plan. How are you going to ensure each team member feels successful without adjusting the 17 inches. See more
