Family violence incidents are increasing in Alberta amid COVID-19. Victims often need help and support from family and friends to get out of a dangerous situation. Over 5,000 calls were made to Calgary Legal Guidance from February to July, 2020 . We were the 1st pro bono clinic in the province to resume services and offer remote volunteer legal clinics and legal programs within 1 day of closing our offices to the public. Not only did we continue to run our free summary advice clinics, we also were able to adjust our brief services programs to ensure that people with immigration concerns, women experiencing or fleeing violence, folks wit...h landlord/tenant issues, and our Indigenous partners and clients still had access to CLG lawyers who could help with their matters.
