For all you podcast junkies out there, this Friday Andrew will be a guest on "Take Note," a podcast hosted through the Müzewest Concert series out of Vancouver! Tune in to his conversation with Jennifer West, artistic director of the Müzewest series on March 26 at 4 PM (Pacific) // 6 PM (Central) // 7 PM (Eastern). Also, the episode will be available via the Müzewest YouTube channel.
Congratulations Andrew !
We're anticipating the release of the recording and video performance of Captive, the third project in our Reconciliation Series! Looking to be released this year, the series is spearheaded by composer and Artistic Director, Andrew Balfour, who curates each concert around a theme that resonates with the Canadian Indigenous experience. "The motivation at the heart of the Captive project (and the entire Reconciliation project) is to provide a platform for the voices of Indigenous artists." Read the rest of what Andrew has to say about the project, and don't forget to revisit some of the spectacular moments captured from Camerata Nova's past Reconciliation concerts (video excerpts included in the article).
Join composer and artistic director, Andrew Balfour, tomorrow for the second conversation in this important series from Carleton University. Find details and RSVP link below. In light of the Black Lives Matter movement, musicians and music scholars across Canada are confronting systemic racism both in music and in society. What are the realities of racism in music that we need to acknowledge and reckon with? What is music’s potential for promoting anti-racism? And how is the ...current national conversation on racism entwined with the work of decolonization? Join us for a series of conversations with musicians and music scholars who are at the forefront of anti-racist music scholarship, facilitated by Helmut Kallmann Chair, Ellen Waterman. Everyone attending will have the opportunity to join in the conversation. https://carleton.ca/music/kallmann-events/
Thank you Manitoba Choral Association!
This early music hit has never looked so cool cool as the icy expanse of a Manitoban Winter. The chiding and intimate subject matter of Visin, Visin, Visin, based on a raunchy Venetian Carnival song of the 15th century, creates a stark, albeit powerful contrast with this lonely visual. Perhaps we can imagine ourselves as the pilgrim, trudging through a cold and unforgiving pandemic. We are seemingly alone, but zoom out for a broader perspective, and we are surrounded by ...a chorus of voices! This Advent season, may we be reminded that we do not celebrate alone and without comfort, just as we are not alone in surviving the pandemic. The voices of those who care for us are closer than we think, and a warm hut is waiting to offer us refuge through a stormy night. #pandemicrecordings
We are so lucky to share in Manitoba's vast vocal talent. See it on display in a new video from the Winnipeg Singers.
Bravo to the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, our very own Andrew Balfour, and to all those involved in the wonderful livestream of Notinkiew (Going to War) - a program of Remembrance: A Choral Perspective of Canada’s Indigenous Veterans. In case you missed it, you can see it below or here: https://www.tmchoir.org/202021-season/remembrance/ #IndigenousHistory #indigenousart #canadianhistory #choralmusic
Our Instagram account tells a vibrant, fun, and original story of who we are using awesome images, captions, and quotes. We feature posts about our Artistic Director Andrew Balfour, conductors, composers, guest performers, and of course, the super talented singers! How can you find us on Instagram? It's easy. We are so proud to be a part of Manitoba's incredible choral community. See something beautiful from Polycoro.
We have a new social project in the works, and we may need your help with it! We would like to tell the story, through photos and captions, of early choral music in Winnipeg! How can you help? If you have any photos (plus accompanying memories) that you think would be worth sharing, please send them our way - we would love to feature them in our campaign. You can either scan the photos or capture them on your smartphone, and email them to [email protected].... Many thanks in advance!
Join Andrew Balfour and Toronto Mendelssohn Choir online Nov 11th for an inspiring program that features a Choral Perspective of Canada's Indigenous Veterans. Read more below.
