To honour our pledge of learning more and doing better regarding gender identity inclusion we are proud to announce that part of our Camp is going to change it's naming of certain areas of camp along the lines of gender identity. The area formerly referred to as the Girls' side of the Cabin Loop, will now be called the West side. The west side of Camp is the area that Towne Hall, the paddle docks, and the archery area are located. The area formerly referred to as the Bo...ys' side of the Cabin Loop, will now be called the East side. This summer, as a camp, we are committing to the following: We commit to continuing to educate ourselves and our community on justice issues that our trans campers, families and staff may face. We commit to making space for our campers, families and staff to use the pronouns that make them feel whole.... We work to ensure that all members of our camp community have access to a sleeping space that is equitable and safe for them, regardless of their sex assigned at birth. We are lucky at Camp Couchiching to have many individuals bathrooms which also can act as change rooms throughout our camp. #campcouchiching #campcouchichingcan

We are ramping up our learning mode this next month! Besides our internal reading groups which study the best guidance that we expect to use, we are attending these conference sessions to ensure we are up to date! One of Camp's fundraisers is our partnership with FundScrip. You buy gift cards from the FundScrip website, use Camp's code, 558KLG, and then Camp gets a few dollars from each purchase. We've had 20 people sign up to buy gift cards through us. Camp gets more money if you pay by e-transfer and you can choose digital gift cards to save on shipping costs. Consider buying cards for places you typically shop at like your gas station or groceries and shop in a different way. Camp Couchiching can be many things to many people but we need your support. We are making and have made it for 2021 but that is with a lot of government support, we need a great financial foundation to leap forward in future years. Without fundraising, we would be needing to increase fees to beyond what we feel our affordable rate is, put a hold on necessary repairs and decrease our campership funding. Hey Alums! Save the Date for our 75th Anniversary weekend at Camp. We're planning it for the early Fall so there is a hint of summer left in the air plus there is a better chance that nasty Covid restrictions may be lessened. Depending on numbers we're allowed to have at Camp, we may have day visitors on the Saturday only.
