Here's one of our new beauties that is being fostered by CGAP. Meet Cutler.
Goodnight from Camp Greyhound
Here's Tempo's sleepy self this morning. When you're 14, you get to sleep in as late as you like, and you even get scrambled eggs served in bed.
Some amazing deals to be had while supporting the cause of retired racing greyhounds. This program fixes the broken legs of dogs who may not have a future if they aren't able to have surgery. Please check it out! http://www.2houndsdesign.com/old/cgi-bin/2hounds.pl
A few favorite shots from the summer so far.
It's nail day! Maybe Mom won't notice me if I hide!
Some of the hounds at Camp Greyhound this week.
Happy hounds in the pasture.
Thinking of little Cricket tonight, hoping she is recovering well from her dental!
Had some fun in the pasture tonight. If you're a client, be sure to join our closed group so you can see lots of updates about your hound!
May 14, A SPECIAL DAY! In April of 2015, a gorgeous 10.5 year old boy named Nero came to live with me. His old family were unable to continue to care for him, ...and I was happy to have him come and live with us at Camp Greyhound. His race name had been Gable Habenero, and we shifted his name to Gabe. He was a gorgeous brindle boy without a grey hair on his head, and a very happy, goofy boy. He shared a sire with Roy, which made them half brothers. He had a bit of a funny gait, and I wanted to get it checked out, so I took him into the vet for xrays and assessment. Unbelievably, the xray caught an early osteosarcoma tumor. I have had greyhounds with OS before, and we always palliate, meaning keep them comfortable for as long as you can, then say goodbye when they're no longer happy to be here. But this time was different. From the very beginning, I had a strong instinct to treat the cancer as aggressively as possible. After contacting Guillermo Couto, we received a referral to Dr. Mark Koshko at Metzger's in PA, and Gabe and I headed down there for diagnostics, surgery and chemo, all of which would happen within one week. It was a very bumpy first week, and all of the staff at Metzger's were simply amazing. After that he improved steadily, no doubt helped by all of you who kept him in your thoughts and prayers. We then travelled back and forth for 3 more treatments. Gabe became a happy tripawd, and a fixture at Camp Greyhound, being the counsellor in charge of welcomes, goofiness and grass eating. Gabe has spent the past 2 years enjoying his life and his pack; running, eating snuggling, barking and eating grass in the pasture. He loves to meet the campers and their families and always welcomes them with big leans. He is nuts about me in an uncommon way. He is a very affectionate boy who spreads his love around. He still loves to run, and most nights we do have a run around the pond or through the pasture, his choice. I will be forever grateful that I was able to give him this bonus time that so very many don't get. We'll never know whether it was the chemo, the multitude of supplements, or just his genes and the variety of OS he had, but I'm so glad he's still here with us. Happy 2nd Ampuversary, dear goofy boy.
