The Walden community is devastated to hear of the sudden loss of two community members. Past camper, Daniel Herzog (seen here second from the right in one of our favourite camp pictures of all time), spent 8 summers with us between 2001 and 2008 and had just recently attended the CITs of 2008 reunion in 2018. Through his battle with cancer, Daniel built a small business and wrote a personal and insightful account which can be read at www.idoverego.com. Our hearts are with ...Daniel’s family and friends at this time as we remember Daniel’s life and legacy. Daniel's Walden cabinmates have started a fundraising page in support of Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation in Daniel's memory. Walden parent, Avi Raphael, proud father to current campers Georgia, Rhys, and Rogen, beloved husband to Annie. Avi’s sudden passing has left us all heartbroken and the Walden community would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Raphael family and to their extended family and close friends. We know that Georgia, Rhys, and Rogen have an amazing, loving, and caring community to support them, including many of their cabinmates and camp friends. Shabbat Shalom, Camp Walden Here’s to all the teachers out there! And to all the principals, custodians, and school administrators who have been thrust on to the front lines: Our own children tell us that you are bringing joy and some normalcy to a very strange time in history. From our family to yours: Thank you!... Walden's first day is 9 months from today. And while "Winter is coming", so too is Spring. Hopefully, this journey we are all on will shift positively over the next 9 months and will carry us to Walden next summer. For the same reasons as always and for some reasons so different than before WE WANT CAMP AND EXPERIENCES LIKE CAMP MORE THAN EVER. Our lives are ever changing. Fear is a prevailing emotion in so many aspects of society. While the virus seems to spare most kids from severe illness, living during the time of a pandemic is having a deepening effect on kids’ mental health. We think the kids will be alright. They are resilient, and strong, and prepared for life. But still, Kids will want a place to land, to escape the negative news, to feel truly free. Free to touch, free to see one another’s smile, free to hug, and free to play and engage their senses in our beautiful setting. Camp develops the kind of confidence that equips us to meet life's challenges when we return home at the end of the summer. Parents will need an opportunity to once again "let go" and take time for themselves, while knowing that their children are safe. Staff will need an environment where they contribute to children’s lives personally, and with real purpose. We will all need A PLACE FOR HEALING. WALDEN AND MANY OTHER OCA CAMPS WILL BE THERE TO DO WHAT IS REQUIRED, AND WHAT IS DIRECTED, TO TAKE CARE OF OUR CHILDREN. In fact, it will be our honour. We are so excited to announce the birth of Kori Ellie Collins! Parents Jamie, Nadine and puppy sister Poppy are overjoyed with the arrival of the newest member of cabin rainbow and proud CIT of 2036! Kori came into this world in the early hours of July 31st - cookie cakes for life!!! We couldn’t be happier for Collins and Nadine, who fell in love at Walden, and can’t wait for Kori to join us up at camp next summer!

We'd like to send a huge congratulations to Ashton Genrick from our full time office team and her fiance Andrew on the birth of their first child, Griffin Andrew Stewart!! Funny enough, Griffin was born on May 19th, the same day the announcement about camp was made. Griffin brought us so much light on a tough day, one we will surely never forget. We are so excited for you Ashton and wanted to share the news with the whole Walden community! Thank you to everyone for being so patient with us over these last few months. As of today we think we've returned all of your phone calls and emails! If you have an outstanding question or issue on any topic please reach out and remind us!!! An incredible longtime Walden family is raising money to buy iPads for patients at Princess Margaret Hospital, who have been completely isolated from their families due to the COVID-19 Pandemic! Hayden Solomons, father of Halle Solomons (current Walden staff) and Max Solomons (Walden alumni), has been at PMH for the past 6 weeks for non-covid related treatment. While an iPad has been able to keep Hayden connected to his family and friends, many patients at the hospital do not... have that same luxury. Please consider donating to this amazing fund! Here we are, another week gone by. We hope this weekend brings some relaxation and as we start to feel some real spring weather. We continue to hope and pray to be together for a Shabbat at Walden this summer. Love you all. Shabbat Shalom, Camp Walden.

David Stein was a camper and long-time staff member at Walden from 1985 to 1999. He started off as a tripper, then a Head of Theater and finally found his passion in film. He originated the Walden video program and was instrumental in many of the camp-wide programs and events that took place. David brought the sounds, the laughter and the spirit of Walden to everyone who came in contact with the camp. David is an integral piece of our Walden story. David's brother Eric has created a YouTube channel for his films and footage. Check out Eric's original post below for more info

This week we are thankful for our staff. Yesterday, almost 200 2020 staff from all over the world joined us on a zoom Fireside Chat. It was so amazing to see new and familiar faces. Through these last few weeks they have been patient, compassionate, and most of all hopeful. Hopeful that camp will go on, but also hopeful that Walden will be the same magical place we all know and love despite the circumstances.
