Because of circumstances beyond our control due to the Covid 19 pandemic making fundraising this year almost impossible we have delved deep into our ‘rainy day’... funds to help those most in need. This year certainly qualified as a rainy day! At last Wednesday’s Zoom General Meeting members agreed to disburse $500 each to the following local organizations; Youth Services Bureau, Banff Ave Community House Food Bank, Nelson House & Interval House (women’s shelters), Caring & Sharing and Meals on Wheels ( for their Christmas programs) and the soon to be opened Veterans’ House for homeless veterans.

The Born to Read NB Inc. program in New Brunswick / Nouveau-Brunswick is a book gifting program that promotes the importance of reading with children. Life doesn’t always work out as expected and sometimes, there are circumstances beyond our control that impact our lives. In our community and surrounding areas there are hundreds of women every year who receive support from social service agencies and churches. Some are seeking #shelter, #safety and #refuge. Some seek support in rebuilding their lives following tragic circumstances, some are recovering from illness and having a tough time making ends meet. Can you imag...ine finding yourself in need of personal care items and not having the resources to quickly run into a store to pick them up? Sometimes, it’s the small things that matter most & make a world of difference. Members of the Jon Sigurdsson Chapter IODE Winnipeg, Manitoba have been busy collecting pervious loved purses to fill with personal care items, toiletries, health and beauty products for local #womensshelters and #womeninneed

World Cleanup Day Saturday September 19, 2020 World Cleanup Day is one of the biggest civic movements of our time, uniting 180 countries across the world for a cleaner planet. The inaugural World Cleanup Day was September 2018. World Cleanup Day 2019 united more than 21.2 million people in 180 countries. Here are three ways how you can participate.... 1. Organized where possible and allowed. Gather people for cleanups with a recommendation to restrict the number of participants and to spread cleanup locations to avoid people coming in close contact with too many attendees. 2. As an alternative to large gatherings, people can be invited to clean their surrounding areas with their families or individually without massive gatherings. 3. If you find the situation doesn’t look favourable for traditional cleanups, or you want to engage target groups with a higher risk for COVID-19, we propose a clean-up you can do within your own home digital cleanup, deleting digital trash from your gadgets. Remember to track your volunteer time for reporting on your chapter’s citizenship annual report.
