When Canadians need to travel away from home for cancer treatment, they can rely on our lodges for comfort and support. That’s because passionate staff like Carl help ensure that our lodges run smoothly all year round. Carl has been proudly supporting our guests at the Daffodil Place lodge in St. John’s, Newfoundland since it opened 11 years ago. He helps maintain the daily operations of the lodge by tracking and recording guest information, updating guest stays and room ava...ilability, summarizing lodge statistics and tracking information from our wig and prosthesis program. As the pandemic continues to affect Canadians, we’re so grateful to Carl and our staff and volunteers across the country who are working hard to keep our communities safe and healthy. We couldn’t do what we do without you. Thank you! Learn about how we’ve reopened our lodges safely during the pandemic: https://bit.ly/3fpvZGl

We believe Canadians faced with a cancer diagnosis should receive the time off they need to access care, heal and focus on recovery. With the average cancer treatment and physical recovery time for some of the most common cancers ranging from 11 to over 47 weeks, we know the current Employment Insurance Sickness Benefit coverage of 15 weeks is not enough. Join us in calling on the federal government to extend the sickness benefit from 15 to at least 26 weeks an important step forward that would bring the length of the benefit in line with the compassionate care benefit for caregivers. A lung cancer diagnosis can be challenging, but the negative attitudes or stigma that often accompany the diagnosis can be just as difficult to cope with. Lung cancer carries stigma mainly because of its connection to smoking. And while lung cancer can affect anyone including people who have never smoked people with lung cancer might feel the diagnosis is their fault. This can make the experience of living with cancer even harder. Everyone deserves care and support throughout the cancer experience, which is why we’re working to educate Canadians about lung cancer stigma. During Lung Cancer Awareness Month, learn more about stigma and lung cancer by watching our Cancer Basics video, proudly sponsored by BMO Financial Group.
