Remembering Trooper Brian Richard Good who sacrificed his life twelve years ago today while proudly serving our country in Afghanistan. On January 7th, 2009, Trooper Brian Good, aged 43, a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons of CFB Petawawa, while serving with the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment battle group, was killed when his armoured vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device. The incident occurred in the Shah Wali Kowt district, about 35 kilometr...es north of Kandahar City. Trooper Good, of Ottawa, was born in Zweibrücken, in what was then West Germany, where his father was posted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. In October of 2005, at the age of 40, Brian enlisted in the forces, and was on his first overseas deployment. He is survived by his wife Sandra and their daughters, Jessica and Kayla, along with his mother, Jeanne Pusztai, brothers David, Daniel, Stephen and Mark, and extended family. His father, Arthur Barry Good, predeceased him. Brian would of turned 44 just 9 days later, on January 16th. His brother, Steve Good, said Brian would go to any lengths to help friends and family at home along with his comrades in Afghanistan. Several of Brian's fellow comrades and military peers whom were interviewed following Brian's death all conveyed these same sentiments, "Brian Good was an easygoing individual who would do anything for anyone." The two brothers grew up 'thick as thieves' in the Britannia area of Ottawa. In an interview 6 years after Brian's death, Steve stated "he took a part of me with him, I still feel it today." CFB Petawawa, Col. Dean Milner, then commander of 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, stated "Good was a hero to his fellow soldiers as well to this brigade and the rest of the Canadian Forces." Despite the fact that Milner had commanded thousands of soldiers and trained about 2,500 at a time, he said Good left an impression on him during training exercises. "I remember him as one of those soldiers who stood out. Very bright. A soldier that has lots of experience because of the fact that he joined the forces later in life. He stood out as one of those guys who liked to talk to you. Again, from the troops, a real team player." He also stated Trooper Good was a great "dad" to the many soldiers in their early 20's serving in Afghanistan. "He played that experienced, mature, father figure with the troops." Brian's unit often referring to him, lovingly, as 'the old man.' A beloved husband, father, brother, friend and comrade. May we never forget. Audax et Celer

Eric Labbé, 31, with the 2nd Battalion, Royal 22nd Regiment, from CFB Valcartier, Quebec, were killed in a vehicle rollover during a mission in the volatile Zhari district of southern Afghanistan. Both soldiers were in the turret of their LAV III and while moving across rough and difficult terrain t...heir vehicle rolled over on a muddy dirt path, killing them instantly. The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. local time in the Nalgham region, about 40 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City. W.O. Massouh was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and grew up in Montréal, QC. Massouh had over 17 years service with the Canadian Forces and had previously been deployed to Haiti, Croatia, Somalia and Bosnia. He was just weeks away from his retirement. Hani is remembered for his work ethic, keen leadership and jovial, generous character.
