CPCA Equine Athletes Spring Soup aka Soupie from the Nolan Bullock barn I like to say I don’t have favorites and I really love all the horses. But there's just something about greys for me. Spring Soup, aka Soupie. A Kentucky bred, big handsome grey born in 2008. A son to the legendary race horse; Alphabet Soup. Soupie's career earnings at the track were just shy of 38,000. A small fraction of his sire's almost 3 million.... 4 years ago was the first time I laid eyes on Soupie. Standing out in the pasture, he was owned by Louis and his Team Stanley Racing. I knew right away when I started my wagon racing career that he would be the horse to get first. I’m beyond thrilled to build a outfit around Soupie. He is a horse that can start hard at the horn, has run and above all; has heart the size of the grand canyon. With more attitude then half the herd combined. He loves attention but he’ll decide where and when he wants that attention. Soupie even makes sure you know how mad he gets when he is not racing, if his buddy next to him is being harnessed and not him you can guarantee attitude then.

CPCA Equine Athletes Bourne from the Jamie Laboucane barn Bourne is a 2008 BC bred that only made $20,497 life time on the track. He is a bigger blaze face horse that has kind of an ugly head on him. He is pushy and rammy and if you let him he will bully you. We got him as a four year old out of Phoenix and he really drove when we broke him. We put him on left lead the spring we broke him, but it became just a little to much for him and we had to put him back on wheel. We use...d him off and on the next few 2 years but he didn’t like to stand in the barrels all the time so he was never consistently on my point outfit. Then one winter I watched a tape of him pushing me past the top of 1 barrel when my leader ducked to early. I realized that he could be the missing link to my outfit and boy was that an understatement. From that point on he never left right wheel on my good outfit and he has been on for almost every big run I have had the last few years. He is the best right wheelers I have ever known and even though he can still be a bully and can be a little hard to handle sometimes. He is always first to comes for a visit when you go out in the pasture in the winter, because we have softened our hearts to him just as he has softened his heart to us. See more

CPCA Equine Athletes Three score from the Jamie Laboucane barn Three score is one of my up and coming young guns that cracked my top outfit by the Calgary Stampede on left lead and pulled off a couple of top 5 runs there as well as quite a few day money’s and top 5 runs at home. Three score is a Kentucky bred that made $41,211 at the race track. My dad picked him up in Phoenix in January of 2019 and he came home to a snowy tundra of -40 weather where he spent much of his firs...t few months in the barn with a blanket on. He is not the biggest horse around and some of the other new horses looked maybe a little flashier. Still there was that spark in him so I threw him on right hand lead in the spring and he consistently get better and better. So by Calgary I needed a left leader and we tried him there the show before and low and behold he was the one I was missing. He is so calm and chill, kinda like a California surfer dude in the barn. But once you hook him to the wagon he is a business, he looks like the future of my wagon and I cannot wait to see what he brings to our upcoming season. See more

CPCA Equine Athletes Ch from the Jamie Laboucane barn Ch also known as Cattle Hauler, is a 2010 Kentucky bred that was purchased off my god father Dale Gray around 2015. When I broke him that fall he drove along and didn’t do anything wrong but just didn’t wow me. So I thought let’s throw a saddle on him and see if he likes outriding and we never looked back. That year it wasn’t long and he was consistently being asked by past high point champion outrider Logan Pethick, to be out in my point outfit. He has been one of my most consistent outriding horses we have ever known and whether holding leader or throwing stove he always gets the job done. What we love most about his is his soft calm demeanor, and his love of chin scratch’s and mints. He is great with kids and we are lucky to call him one of the family!!

Wagon Wednesday-Blast from the Past-1995 The year the association changed it's name to the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association. As quoted by the President, Marilyn Napper, "Even though our name has changed, we remain the same group of people committed to thrilling you with our chuckwagon racing. Our name carries us from our humble beginnings to a bright and exciting future. The change in our name and our logo is the first step in presenting a new image for the '90'...s and the 21st century. We feel the "CPCA" better reflects the scope and history of our sport and we believe the new image will help us and wagon racing in general become more visible across the country." CPCA Board: President - Marilyn Napper Vice President - Lionel Romanchuk Directors: Wayne Dagg, Ross Knight, Dennis MacGillivray, Herman Flad, Brian Laboucane, Stan Robertson The 1995 Souvenir Program was dedicated to the late Allan Bensmiller. For many years Allan raced in the association, where he was crowned the Champion of the NPCA 5 times in addition to winning countless shows and was the official starter for four years. He was a true legend to the sport of chuckwagon racing. A few drivers during this era include: Bruce Morin, Roger Moore, Bert Croteau, Buddy Bensmiller, Ray Croteau, Ray Mitsuing and many more. A few Outriders during this time included: Clem Weeseekase, Roger Moore, Doug Irvine, Layne MacGillivray, Sandy McKenzie, Ross Knight, Dale Gray, Wayne Wright and many more. CPCA Equine Athletes Mugs from the Jamie Laboucane barn @chuckwagonjamie My first horse I would like to talk about is my top lead horse Mugs. Mugs aka Mag Shot is a Kentucky bred, he did break his maiden at Kentucky before being band off the track because he would come sideways out of the gates. From there he got sent to Phoenix where we picked him up for 500 because the trainer could not break him of his old habit. We brought him home as a five year old and he went straig...ht to lead and has stayed there his whole career. He has won top left hand leader at the Calgary Stampede, and top right leader in the CPCA which proves what a versatile horse he is and how good he is. He has been on almost all of my top outfits over the last decade. He he has a very strong personality and loves being stubborn and difficult, but when you go out in the pasture he is the first up to get snuggles and pets. He may not be a big horse but he performs at an elite level and we love him very much. See more
