REX MURPHY IN THE NATIONAL POST: "I saw over the weekend that in parts of our most hospitable Western provinces a minus 50 on the dread Celsius scale was easily achieved. A real tribute I thought to the efficacy of the carbon tax and the zeal of our Western friends to keep up the fight to keep their provinces colder than ever. Canada is doing its part. The carbon tax is a grand success, and as it grows the people of my great country will get more frigid by the day and love it."

FROM THE WALL STREET JOURNAL: 14 Republican attorney generals [have] said Montana will lose $58 million in tax revenue, and five of the six impacted counties are designated high-poverty areas. So your decision to shut down the project means less money for schools, less money for public services, and the elimination of business and job opportunities in those areas where they are most needed.

JOHN O'SULLIVAN IN THE PIPELINE: [Green groups] preach that unless you give up eating meat, fly less, abandon your car for a slower and more expensive one, throw out your gas heaters for electric storage heaters that don’t actually keep you warm, and in general live more like a mendicant Buddhist, then a horrendous climate emergency will ensure that the world will end last Tuesday.

PARKER GALLANT: The Canadian Renewal Energy Association is pleased to see a commitment of nearly ONE BILLION DOLLARS from the Trudeau government over four years to support renewable power generation and grid modernization. This means taxpayers are on the hook for subsidizing wind turbines, solar panels, and batteries. Consider this: the effective capacity of industrial turbines is estimated at 17.4% during Ontario’s winter months and a miserly 3.2% during summer months. Wh...at effective capacity means is industrial wind during the summer months in Ontario will only deliver generated power when it is needed 3.2% of the time! The time has come for our politicians to face reality and recognize wind, solar and battery storage will not only destroy the Canadian economy, but also, kill birds, bats, insects, harm people’s health and in the process ruin our beautiful landscapes!

CAE PRESIDENT DAN MCTEAGUE: Conservative party leader Erin O’Toole endorsed PM Trudeau’s goal of net zero by 2050 (just as he continues to support Trudeau’s commitment to the Paris Agreement). If O’Toole supports net zero by 2050, he also supports expensive policies like the carbon tax and the Clean Fuel Standard.

EDITORIAL IN THE TIMES COLONIST: It is becoming clearer by the day that B.C.’s carbon tax is not working as originally promised. When then-premier Gordon Campbell introduced the levy in 2008, his government assured us it would be "revenue neutral." On an ongoing basis, a fair assessment is that only around one eighth of the money raised by the levy is being returned directly to taxpayers.
