After decades of broken passageways blocking Pacific salmon and Steelhead from reaching their spawning and rearing streams, we’re reconnecting these fish to the homes they’ve always known. Thanks to multiple partnerships and funding from the provincial and federal government, restoration projects are now underway across #BC, including Vancouver Island, the #FraserRiver and #ColumbiaBasin. The projects repair historical harm to salmon and trout habitats, caused by past constru...ction of roads and railways across spawning and rearing streams. Many of these barriers were created prior to legislation, but through innovation and collaboration, we’re restoring these passageways so fish can thrive in the future. To learn more, visit www.FishPassage.ca or read the official press release: http://ow.ly/ZgGM50Csr5P. With the holidays around the corner, we have a ‘gift that gives back’ option to share with you. Clare Hodgetts, co-founder of InFocus Canada, is supporting the Canadian Wildlife Federation through the sale of her beautiful, sustainably made ‘Flowers in Bloom’ and ‘Flicker’ scarves, which feature leading female photographers and celebrate our connections with nature and each other. 10% of the scarf sales is being donated to support CWF's conservation work. You can purchase 'Flowers in Bloom' here: http://ow.ly/yxUN50CnnKd and 'Flickr' here: http://ow.ly/Q3Kl50CnnKe. Thank you, Clare!

If there’s one thing nature teaches us, it’s how to adapt. The Canadian Conservation Corps has adapted to the pandemic and continues to offer conservation leadership opportunities for youth ages 18 to 30 across Canada. For Caledonia’s Jenna Shemmans, that meant starting with a flatwater canoeing expedition in Northern Ontario, followed by field learning with the Souris & Area Branch of the P.E.I. Wildlife Federation. Jenna’s tasks included macroinvertebrate sampling in the Ha...y River to be used as an indicator of watershed health. The #CCC is a program developed by the Canadian Wildlife Federation and funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Service Corps. So far 26 groups have enjoyed a CCC experience. You could be next!
