I worked as a volunteer for CRA's "Community Volunteer Income Tax Program" & received this certificate of appreciation.
If you started to use part of your principal residence for rental or business purposes, the CRA usually considers you to have changed the use of that part of your principal residence unless all of the following conditions apply: * Your rental or business use of the property is relatively small in relation to its use as your principal residence * You do not make any structural changes to the property to make it more suitable for rental or business purposes * You do not deduct any CCA on the part you are using for rental or business purposes
We have organized a 'GoFundMe' online fund raiser to provide food for those who lost their daily earning during this Covid-19 pandemic in Borishal, Bangladesh. According to the World Bank estimates, in Bangladesh about 25 million people live below the poverty line. If possible please donate generously using following 'GoFundMe' link. People living in North America, Europe & Australia can donate securely using Credit/Debit cards. Also please share the link with your friends & family.
To further support small businesses, the Government of Canada has taken following measures today. 01. Announce a 75 per cent wage subsidy for qualifying businesses, for up to 3 months, retroactive to March 15, 2020. This will help businesses to keep and return workers to the payroll. More details on eligibility criteria will start with the impact of COVID-19 on sales, and will be shared before the end of the month. 02. Allow businesses, including self-employed individuals, to... defer all Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) payments until June, as well as customs duties owed for imports. This measure is the equivalent of providing up to $30 billion in interest-free loans to Canadian businesses. It will help businesses so they can continue to pay their employees and their bills, and help ease cash-flow challenges across the country. 03. Launch the new Canada Emergency Business Account. This program will provide up to $25 billion to eligible financial institutions so they can provide interest-free loans to small businesses. These loans guaranteed and funded by the Government of Canada will ensure that small businesses have access to the capital they need, at a zero per cent interest rate, so they can pay for rent and other important costs over the next number of months. 04. Launch the new Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Loan and Guarantee program that will enable up to $40 billion in lending, supported through Export Development Canada and Business Development Bank, for guaranteed loans when small businesses go to their financial institutions to help weather the impacts of COVID-19. This is intended for small and medium-sized companies that require greater help to meet their operational cash flow requirements.

Another CRA communication regarding Goods and Services Tax Credit (GSTC) & Canada Child Benefit (CCB), just to clarify GSTC has no relationship with the HST collected while you are self-employed. Goods and Services Tax Credit (GSTC): The Government is proposing to provide a one-time special payment by early May 2020 through the Goods and Services Tax credit doubling the maximum annual payment amounts for 2019-20. The average boost to income from this measure will be close t...o $400 for single individuals and close to $600 for couples. Canada Child Benefit (CCB): The Government is proposing to increase the maximum annual Canada Child Benefit payment amounts, only for the 2019-20 benefit year, by $300 per child. Overall increase for families receiving CCB will be approximately $550 on average. These families will receive an extra $300 per child as part of their May payment.
The Emergency Care Benefit provides up to $900 every two weeks for up to 15 weeks, to those affected by COVID-19. It's intended for those who don't qualify for EI, can't go to work and don't have paid sick leave. Workers including the self-employed who are quarantined or sick with COVID-19 can apply, as can those staying home to take care of a family member with COVID-19 who doesn't qualify. Parents staying home to care for children because of school closures are also covered, and can apply whether or not they qualify for EI. Benefit plans will be available to apply for in April, through the CRA and My Service Canada websites, and a toll-free number that has not yet been shared.
The deadline to file your income tax and benefit return has been extended from April 30th to June 1st, 2020. The deadline to pay any 2019 balance has been extended to August 31st, 2020. This means all 2019 balances paid before September 2020 will not incur any penalties and interest. For self-employed individuals and their spouse/common-law partner, 2019 balances paid before September 2020 will not incur any penalties and interest. Your income tax and benefit returns must still be filed by June 15, 2020.
