The accountability to Safety and Operational Excellence that Cando operates to, combined with their focus on the customer, is what makes them successful and is the reason why Imperial continues to recognize them as leaders at our Contractor Forums year over year, says Jason Nixon, Edmonton Railyard Superintendent for Imperial. Imperial Oil has recognized Cando for being a safety leader four years in a row. Read more: https://www.candorail.com/imperial-names-cando-safety-lead/

#FlashbackFriday Do you know how Cando got its start? Almost 43 years ago we were created to solve a problem for the Class 1 railways in Canada how to make their network more efficient by dismantling excessive rail lines. Cando (known back then as Cando Contracting) was founded in 1978 as a small rail line dismantling and salvage company in Manitoba, removing track and selling the materials. It was a family business back then and it still is today - the Cando team is family and we're proud of where we came from and of where we're going.

Employee appreciation post! Cando's Engineering and Track Services crews are always hard at work. In 2020, the Cando switch crew (first photo) built more than 50 switches across Western Canada. Meanwhile, our material handling truck drivers (second photo) load rail materials for the Class 1s, working long hours outside no matter what the weather brings. And most importantly, these crews do it safely. The ETS group lead the company in conducting job hazard analysis this year. Thanks ETS!

Cando wins Railway Association of Canada 2020 Safety Award for SwitchSmart, an employee driven campaign to foster safe switching practices. Congratulations to our Safety Department who developed the messaging and to our employees who took ownership and made this initiative their own. https://www.candorail.com/cando-again-recognized-as-leader/

Safety is a way of life for every employee of Cando Rail Services, and this is especially true for our employees at Magna/Formet in St. Thomas. Since start-up on May 1, 1998, we have had zero lost-time injuries at this location, a total of 8,184 days or 22 years. In fact, we have had zero lost-time injuries since start-up at each of the four automobile plants where we operate in Southern Ontario. That’s a combined total of 19,563 days (22, 15, 12 and 4 years) without a single lost-time injury. Successful safety records like these are a result of exceptional leadership, committed employees and a strong safety culture, and at Cando we have all three. We are TrackSmart and SwitchSmart, every job we do, every day that we do it. Learn more about what we do for Magna/Formet: https://www.candorail.com/magna-case-study/
