Carbon Arc Cinema 12.11.2020

Hi, we've resumed virtual screenings with Martin Eden courtesy of Kino Lorber (so ticket prices are US dollars - New York City!) Here's the trailer: https://www....youtube.com/watch?v=IZlYEd4MOCU and the link to the movie is: https://kinomarquee.com//5f6cc6d35e8e250/carbon-arc-cinema Tickets are $9 (US) and are good for 5 days of watching. It's not the same as being together seeing a film but it's a thing. We're working on stuff. Hopefully good news in the spring!

Friday October 23 until November 5 Martin Eden Pietro Marcello | Italy | 2019 | 129m | Italian with English subtitles Adapted from a 1909 novel by Jack London yet set in a provocatively unspecified moment in Italy’s history, Martin Eden is a passionate and enthralling narrative fresco in the tradition of the great Italian classics. Martin (played by the marvelously committed Luca Marinelli) is a self-taught proletarian with artistic aspirations who hopes that his dreams of be...coming a writer will help him rise above his station and marry a wealthy young university student (Jessica Cressy). The dissatisfactions of working-class toil and bourgeois success lead to political awakening and destructive anxiety in this enveloping, superbly mounted bildungsroman. Winner of the Best Actor prize at the Venice Film Festival and the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival. I had the pleasure of meeting Lynn Shelton when she screened Your Sister's Sister in Toronto. She made my first year working TIFF and very much inspired me. I saw her again when she had a gala screening at Roy Thompson Hall. And I was really proud to screen one of her films at Carbon Arc. It has been a rough couple of weeks and I'm sad to add the loss of Lynn Shelton to this list. I saw this offer from Filmatique and thought you might enjoy it while we're away. - 7 Days of Cinema starting this Friday April 3 https://www.filmatique.com/7-days-of-cinema A Statement From Filmatique's Head Curator... "Like many of you, I'm at home. Self-isolation takes its toll, but this is the single most important thing we can do. In an effort to encourage connection, even diversion, in these uncertain times, Filmatique has created 7 Days of Cinema. Each day, for seven days, our curators will present one of their favorite filmswhich you can watch for free. You won't need to sign up for a trial or enter your credit card information. Just come here and watch each day's film. The aim of this virtual movie club is to open a space of reflection, discovery, and connectedness amid an atmosphere of paralysis and fear. The coronavirus pandemic has undermined our social ritualswe can no longer seek solace in each other's company. So where can we turn? Filmatique has long believed in cinema as a tool to help us learn to think differently, to ask different questions, to see the world through different eyes. Perhaps this moment of crisis can also serve as a moment of pauseand perhaps by watching these films together, we can forge new forms of connection. Feel free to share this program with your family, friends, and loved onesand tune into our social channels to hear our curators and collaborators talk about each film. Please stay safe, stay home if you're able to, and enjoy."
