Although we weren't able to have our annual concert this year due to COVID-19, we wanted to reminisce with you and share our fond memories of last years concert. During these times it's hard to stay positive but we hope the power of Caribbean culture and music will help you through it. Stay safe and healthy!

Today, November 11, we celebrate the EIGHTEENTH ANNIVERSARY OF Official Opening of the GUYANA BURN CARE UNIT, a critical care 6 bed unit within the Georgetown Public Corporation. Officially opened November 11 2002 by the Vice President of Guyana and ourselves. At that time there was no care for severely burnt persons and we addressed finding a solution, then contributing to the only solution of creating one. Particularly with the reach we obtained to medical burn care spec...ialists individually at the Ross Tilley Burn Centre at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre. We undertook to create this unit by a work-sharing funding agreement to make this happen. It became a model for diaspora and government partnership to build up capacity in an otherwise does did not exist. We executed the first step in 2000, by a mou between our Caribbean North Charities Foundation and the GPHC Corporation. The first 2 years were planning, design, sourcing of construction components and medical equipment, nurses training materials and presenters. Moreover, we provided financial and technical support to convert an empty 3500 square feet space into a functional critical care 6 bed - unit. It was under the leadership of Harry and Pamela Harakh and their team of volunteers each providing personal financial and technical resources. These stalwarts included colleagues Geeta Singh, Sherman Delsol, Des de Barros, and a multitude of many other significant volunteers, donors and support of the Guyana Consul General in Toronto. The Guyana Diaspora in Canada embraced this project with generosity. Overtime, the burn care doctors have become attached to the unit and are now functioning at a very high level of competency and complexity with routine skin grafting, using advanced burn care techniques. We continue to support with funding specialized equipment and as needed support. The mortality rate has been down by over 40%, and the average length of stay significantly reduced. The lives of over SEVERAL HUNDREDS patients have been impacted with less pain and suffering and better outcome. These statistics are comparable with those of even our own hospitals in Toronto and THANKS TO THE DEDICATED DOCTORS AT THE GEORGETOWN PUBLIC HOSPITAL EXECUTIVE AND PROFESSIONAL STAFF. WE will always be here to assist in any way we can.
