Saw this from a colleague and couldnt help but share. Its VERY common for people to apply for mortgages and not take into account the weight that their car loan carries. For example, someone making 60k annually and 5 percent down can easily afford a 240k home with little/no debt (2700 on a credit card) ... However , that same person with a 500 dollar a month car loan CANNOT. Car loans bog clients down a substantial amount. So the question is , is that brand new car worth it?

Here is the important part of yesterdays CMHC announcement. Though these are not ideal and will change a clients pre-approval, I am very glad they did not yet pursue the original thought of increasing the down payment requirement to 10% as a minimum.
